George Washington was wrong. Sometimes it’s essential to tell “a lie”

“Talking about yesterday’s wrongs keeps each detail alive in your memory.”—Tai Moses

Janet walked into yesterday’s power posse a bit late. She told us later. “I just love walking in here—it feels like I’m walking through a doorway into magic.”

What a cool image! Walking into magic.

And that’s what happens every time I open my email or my blog. You guys keep me inspired. The other day, a beautiful woman mentioned on my blog that she was “hanging by a thread.” I want to thank you all for stepping up and passing on some good mojo, for strengthening that thread into a veritable lifeline. You guys are just so awesome!

One of the commenters mentioned that this was the time to lie. This was the time to forget Pinocchio, abandon that old “I can NOT tell a fib thing” that George Washington is so famous for.

I, of course, prefer to call it telling a different story. But it’s essential for letting go so the future can be different from the past. His advice was so right on that I want to share it here.

Take it away Josh Lugembe. You can find his blog here:

“Perhaps this will come to you a bit late with the measure of time. But I’m sure it isn’t late.

“Please, allow me to tell you a little secret… and that’s, lie. Yes, tell lots of lies.

“I call them lies because that’s what people call them.

“But they aren’t lies… they are what you want to see happen in your life.

“Before I was a published writer I told the whole world that I was. And in no time, I was.

“I remember one time friends at work were talking about what cars they were driving… and I wasn’t driving any. But since none of them knew me well, I told them I have a BMW. Well, I had that BMW in less than three months.

“Once I wanted to work in a big advertising agency, and what did I tell friends? Well, I was working in one. I remember a friend asked me, how do you get paid? While I had no idea on how agencies pay their creatives, I said I get commission. Well, that was in January, on 1st March I was in central London working in one of the top 5 advertising agencies.

“I can tell you a few more examples… but here is the point. Tell the story you want to see… not the story you are frustrated to see.

“I know it’s hard at first but if we want a change, we must change the language we use to define or express our realities.

“So no more talking about what has already happened, it’s of no use to us.

“Now it’s time to talk more about what you want to see happen.

“At first you’d want to laugh out loud as you say, ‘My health is so good, I will be running marathon next year!’, ‘Amazing things flow my way all the time…’, ‘Just look how blessed I am! Just look at it…!
So don’t wait until something happen before you believe, believe because that’s how it will happen. And most of all, make it like a game because seriousness will have a resistance to it, and you don’t want that.

“Change your language, change your life.”

Thanks, Josh, for sharing your wisdom.

Why Freaky Friday has become “Well, duh!” ……or….Miracles, it’s just how we roll

“I thought my life would include more impromptu sing-a-longs.”—Susan Kristiansen

Happy Friday, my friends. Thought I’d head into the weekend with a couple stories from the Twilight Zone.
Only these days, we fully realize that what used to be dubbed miraculous or coincidental or beyond the natural order is nothing but the universe saying, “Psst. Over here!!”

I’m lucky because these stories land in my inbox every day. Who needs the New York Times when you’ve got readers sending stories of life in the miracle trenches?

Here are just three:

1. A friend of mine in Kansas wanted to move to California. So she told the F.P. (the field of infinite potentiality where all things are possible) that she wanted her husband to get a higher paying job working half as many hours. A week later, her husband gets an offer. He hadn’t even realized he was looking for a new job. But this offer (you can guess what I’m about to say ) is in California, for twice as much money, working half as many hours.

2. Sandy was doing one of the experiments from E-Cubed. She was desperately missing her daughter who left the physical plane (some people call it dying) in December. She made the intention that she wanted to hear from her. She turned the page and there was this quote from Eleanor Roosevelt: “You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing you think you cannot do.

“That’s the quote,” Sandy said, “I put on my daughter’s booklet at her funeral.”

3. This one’s for those who still aren’t sure the universe is working behind the scenes.

“Back in Detroit, where I grew up and was going to Wayne State at that time (math and philosophy), I was riding shotgun with my friend Stan on a warm Saturday afternoon, circa 1967. Stan often worked at his father’s gas station on Saturdays, but on this day he was free to play. You may know that at that time Detroit was still a vibrant grand city, with lots to do on any given day. There were gas stations on practically every major street corner, almost literally. Thousands, I imagine, throughout the city.

“At one point he realized he needed some gas, so he pulled up to a random station and started filling up. In those days there were offices in most stations. Also, most stations had attendants who pumped the gas for you. So, we were both in the car when suddenly another attendant came out to our car (we were the only car there) and asked my friend, “Are you Stan Liebowitz?” Stan said “Yes, why?” The guy said, “There’s a phone call for you inside.” We both looked at each other and silently were thinking WTF!!!

“He went inside and it turned out that a friend of his needed to contact him, thought he was working at his father’s station, looked it up in the Yellow Pages (no Internet or cell phones at that time), and ACCIDENTALLY copied the number of the station listed JUST BELOW his father’s and called it, which turned out to be the station we drove into just at the same time he called.

Okay, so here’s the deal. We can continue to be surprised and call these events random chance or we can shrug, say, “Well Duh!” and recognize that the universe is constantly trying to get our attention, to interact with us, to rain down blessings.

Our only job is to widen the aperture of our awareness.

Have the best weekend of your lives, my friends!!! And please enjoy at least one impromptu sing-a-long!!!

Sting, Deepak and Steve Jobs all had a Day One. The question is how do you get to Day Two

“What would constitute a perfect day for you? Why do we always go home and watch Netflix instead?”—Susanna Wolff

I love Jessica Ortner. We just recorded a podcast for her new series, “Adventures in Happiness.” Stay tuned. Our episode will run soon.

In the meantime, I decided to listen to Episode One which she recorded when her brother Nick woke her up at 7 a.m. California time.

The theme was “GET STARTED.” On your dream. Right now.

The reason most of us don’t is because we’re judging our Day One with everybody else’s Day 42 or 50. Every person you look up to—be it Picasso, Tony Robbins or Meryl Streep—started somewhere. Every person had a Day One. And I guarantee it probably sucked.

Jessica told the story of starting CrossFit. She threw herself into it, but even so, Megan, as she says, “smoked her.” Megan who had been training for 18 months. Megan who, of course, had developed the stamina to smoke her.

So the takeaway is quit comparing your freshman efforts with people who already have days two, three, etc. under their belt.

The point is. Get started. Today.

The two magic words that can change your life forever

“Resistance is futile.”—The Borg from Star Trek

If you’ve read E-Cubed, you know that one of the experiments involves asking the universe for an inside joke. Here’s a funny story that came in yesterday.

“As I was sitting by my pool reading the first experiment, I had just finished the part about asking the universe for an inside joke. All of a sudden, the wind kicked up. Our eucalyptus tree began raining it’s leaves down on me and all over the yard and pool and it didn’t stop, making a complete mess! All of a sudden, I started laughing and laughing!!!! I got my joke almost immediately!!!!”

Speaking of jokes, I’d like to remind everybody of the two magic words that I use continuously when I need to remember that we’re making this world up. That it’s nothing but a product of our perception. And that at any time, we can change our perception and change our world. Here’s the reminder:

Sherlock Holmes, if he were to get involved, would probably surmise that I learned the magic words I’m about to dispense from one of the speakers at the Rotterdam I Can Do It! Conference.

And he’d be right about one thing. I did learn these words at the conference. But not from one of the speakers.

On one of the breaks, I met this really cool volunteer named Natasja Frowijn. Write that name down. You will be hearing from this fabulous 29-year-old (yes, a mere 29 years old!) who healed her body after a near-fatal scooter accident. For five years, she was bed-ridden in excruciating pain. After doctor after doctor told her she would live the rest of her life in a wheelchair (if she was lucky), she was ready to take a boatload of morphine and call it a life.

But instead, she decided that she would heal herself–not for her family, not for her husband–but for herself.

“I decided that that not only would I heal myself, but I would go on to live an awesome life,” Natasja told me.

She appealed to her grandfathers on the other side. She said to the universe, “Show me.”

That day, she “just happened” to turn on Oprah (yes, Oprah is even in Holland) and saw Louise Hay talking about how she healed herself from cancer. Natasja had never heard of Louise Hay, but that was clear enough guidance. She was on her way.

That week, a woman knocked on her door offering an 8-week course on Louise’s “You Can Heal Your Life.” From that moment on, Natasja has been able to draw into her life pretty much every thing she ever wants. For her, it’s a game.

Today, she’s completely healthy and whole. She works part-time as a nurse and part-time as a medium, talking to folks on the other side. She’s beautiful and fabulous and I’m so grateful I was able to meet her.

As we were talking, I thought, “Wow, this girl should write a book” and guess what? She has already started. Not five minutes later, a publisher came up and said she wanted to see her book. Although Natasja is holding out for Hay House (and believe me if Natasja wants it, it’s as good as a done deal), I was amazed at how quickly she drew this to her. Many people spend decades trying to attract a publisher.

So you’re probably wondering, what are the magic words? Don’t let their simplicity fool you. The words are “It’s okay.”

No matter what. No matter what is happening to you, it’s important to acknowledge that, “it’s okay.

No matter how you feel, “it’s okay”. No matter what you think, “it’s okay.”

Most of us, instead of being “okay” with our lives, get all balled up with judgment and fear. We exhaust ourselves trying to make things different.

The loving intelligence, the big Quantum playground knows exactly how to play out in your life. But when our little pea brains get involved (“Oh, no! I shouldn’t feel this way. I must stop this now.” Kick-kick-kick. “I’d better call my friends and hash this out. Or join a support group, start a blog.”), we put out a murky energy that blocks the healing current.

Our thoughts emit an electrical charge. And when the thoughts are busy “not being okay,” we put up a roadblock to our good.

“It’s okay” is the energy of love. So whatever is happening in your life, simply say, “It’s okay” and let the loving flow of the universe do the heavy lifting.

The secret of people who love their jobs

“The purpose of life is to fart around. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”—Kurt Vonnegut

Happy Wednesday!!! As many of you know, I just gave my first TED talk. It was extremely nerve-wracking, because, instead of viewing it as an opportunity to fart around, I took it very seriously. I tried really hard to make it perfect, awe-inspiring, the best talk I’ve ever given. Trying really hard is never a wise strategy. In doing so, I completely forgot my number one motto which is: “Have fun. No matter what.”

I didn’t exactly bomb the talk, but it wasn’t the firework-inducing success I wanted.

The part that WAS fun was listening to the other speakers. I felt so honored to be chosen for this inaugural TEDX Lawrence and really enjoyed the talks by my fellow co-presenters.

Dr. Shane Lopez, who spoke right before me (when my heart was palpitating so loudly I missed half of it), mentioned that only 13 percent of people like their jobs. For a person who has to pinch herself every now and again to make sure this career of mine isn’t just a wonderful dream, this is a shocking statistic. That means 87 percent of us aren’t jumping up and down when Monday rolls around.

He also mentioned that the secret of those 13 percent who do LOVE their job is they’ve taken ownership of it. They’ve designed their job in a way that brings meaning.

And here’s the thing. We all have the opportunity to do that–no matter what our title is. We get to create our jobs—especially the story in our heads, the story we tell ourselves (and others) about our work. I went king crab fishing with a wonderful guy in Norway. In fact, I’m writing a travel story about it this week. His dad taught him when he was a small child how important it was to realize (and, of course, say) that he GETS to go to his job each day. Never HAS to.

Dr. Lopez asked the audience to clap if they’d ever rented a car. It was pretty unanimous. Then he asked, “How many of you have ever washed a rental car?’ Not a single clap was heard. And not just by the likes of me with the boom-boom-booming heart.

So here’s his point. You can either own your work (and that doesn’t necessarily mean being self-employed). Or you can react to your work. Same with our lives. We can design them how we want. Which, of course, starts with our mental landscape. Or we can keep peddling to someone else’s design.

Tell me in the comments section below how you’ve designed your work and your life. Even if you’re only starting today.

Why cosmic curveballs only lead to home runs

“Love joins with everything. It doesn’t exclude the monster. It doesn’t avoid the nightmare–it looks forward to it.” –Byron Katie

When you think of everything as a miracle, even getting hit by a double decker bus, you’ll be led to a life most extraordinary. Melissa Joy Jonsson, president of Matrix Energetics, was a highly-successful pharmaceutical exec until she literally got smacked in London by a bus.

Most would judge this as unfortunate, but in reality (where only love is real) it led her to her life’s mission–teaching others how to access their authentic self. Getting hit by a bus was actually an act of grace.

Our job, of course, is to withdraw judgment from anything that happens, to remember that only good can come our way. This frees up the universe to begin pouring out blessings.

One of my great blessings is all the miracle stories that pop into my inbox each morning. Here’s one that came in yesterday:

“My name is Corey and I currently live in the Texas panhandle. I’m gonna try and make a long story short…

“A few years ago I was a commissioner in the wind industry. In 2009, jobs became scarce for my position. I fell deeply in debt and lost pretty much everything.

“Even before my trials and tribulations I was embarking on a spiritual journey. I was raised in church, but baffled by the wide variety of theologies. They all believed different things. So I began a search for truth.

“The crazy thing that really started my search was a television interview of Nick Cannon and he was talking about how he spoke into existence him marrying Mariah Carey. He talked about the power of words. This reached out and grabbed me by the arm and sucked me in!

“Over the last 3 years I’ve read every metaphysical book I could get my hands on. “Think and Grow Rich,” “Outwitting the Devil,” “Your Word is your Wand,” everything from Rhonda Byrne to Florence Scovel. Shinn. I’ve read them all.

“Last Monday I came across your book, “E Squared.” I finished the book Tuesday evening and meditated on the message in the book.

“Monday night, March 16th at 9:45 pm I made the demand that I needed a blessing. I needed a financial blessing, but like you said, let the FP decide the blessing first.

“I currently work the security gate at a local methanol plant that is in it’s commissioning stages of construction. I work part time and fill in any extra hours when I can. My hourly pay is way above average for this town, but two days a week doesn’t add up to much. I have been in this position for about two and half months.

“Tuesday morning the head boss over the entire plant passed through the gate and told me to meet him Wednesday in his office and that he needed to talk to me. My first thought was “Uh oh! I’m getting laid off!” However, I immediately corrected that thought and affirmed to myself that I’m blessed and no matter what only good can come my way.

“Wednesday afternoon I arrived for the meeting and my boss asked if I would be interested in working full time with the company. He then began to praise me over my positive attitude, my encouragement of others, and how well I did my job at the front gate. So, he offers me a position directly under him and I will be in charge of multiple aspects of the company. I literally went from last to first. On paper I am in no way qualified for the job but I have learned to shift my focus and people around me are taking notice! My blessing came with 4 hours left of the demanded time.

“After reading your book and applying your techniques with the other methods in the past books I’ve read, I now understand. I finally see the great potential we posses.

Thank you so much for writing this great tool! May it heal, bless, and inspire the people of our world!”

Thanks, Corey, for sharing.

And, as I like to say on Fridays, “Make this the best weekend of your life.”

Challenge the limited human perception. Start today.

“I practice karate moves when I think nobody is watching. It’s all part of being a real American badass. Chicks dig it. I mean they would, if they ever looked and caught me in a moment of awesomeness.

Top of the Morning to you, this gorgeous St. Patty’s Day. I’m off to play pickleball after returning last night from an amazing weekend in Chicago with Matrix Energetics and wanted to share just a couple thoughts.

Don’t wait for the diagnosis, the breakup, the financial hit to start practicing the magical power of your thoughts.

Many of us pay lip service to the invincible universal law that “consciousness create reality.” But we don’t put it into practice UNTIL life slugs us in the face. For example, did you get up this morning and consciously create your day? Did you jump up and intentionally program in magic and miracles?

My point exactly.

One of the most gratifying things about E-Squared is all the groups that are forming, the people who are getting together regularly to practice this mind-blowing truth. Now. With little things.

That way, our magic-making muscles are in shape, our perceptions are opened wider and it just feels natural to make miracles. Of all kinds. Big and Small.

Have an amazingly awesome day!!

When making an intention, your only job is to chill

“Everything you can imagine is real.”–Pablo Picasso

When it comes to turning thoughts into things, it’s imperative to disregard “what appears to be true.”

Focus instead on “what you want to be true.”

Sure, you might get bucked off the horse from time to time, might start listening to that spin doctor in the brain, be tempted to focus on the “information” presented by the five senses, the news media, the default setting that says, “Be careful. Worry. Don’t even think about learning to relax.”

But just keep climbing back into that saddle and focusing on what you want to be true.

That’s why I’ve made “training my mind” priority numero uno. On a daily basis, I instruct it to look for beauty. Encourage it to seek out the bigger picture, to focus on the love and the seemingly impossible.

I’ve heard back now from several winners of the E-Cubed Selfie Challenge. And I was thrilled to learn that many of them have already seen their vision come to fruition. Cheryl Lynn Gibbs sent a fabulous selfie of her and her hubbie with the Airstream they wanted to drive across the country.

Here’s her story:

I posted my selfie/bookie on your page at about 8:00 on a Wednesday night. My hubby and I were the ones who intended to manifest an Airstream so we could travel in style across this magical country of ours to visit my family in the Midwest. Around 9:00 the following morning, my hubby received an email from his favorite cousin in southern California.

She wrote, “I have a 27-foot Airstream you two can use ….” What the? Crazy, huh? Just 13 short hours! I LOVE stuff like this!!! My hubby and I call this “access to resources.” A couple of years ago, I was listening to a series of interviews on abundance. The interviewer would begin each interview by asking the question, “What is abundance to you?” One gentleman responded, “Abundance is simply access to resources. You don’t need to own the swimming pool–just have access to it. You don’t need to own the tennis court–just have access to it. You don’t need to own the horse–just have access to it.” For us, we don’t need to own the Airstream–just have access to it. And quite honestly, we have no where to park it at our house anyway. The Universe takes care of all the deets if you just step back and let It do Its thing!

Houston, we have a winner…29 winners of the E3 Selfie Challenge

“Remember…nobody wins unless everybody wins.”—Bruce Springstein
E3 Bookie!!
Gosh, you guys! It was utterly impossible to pick winners of the E-Cubed Selfie Challenge. Creativity and joy and excitement just oozed out of every entry. In the end, I had to throw all the entries in a hat and eenie-minie mo it.

Seriously, you guys are all SO. COOL! I feel honored to be sharing the same planet with you. I did notice a couple trends. Quite a few of you will soon be traveling and publishing books. At least five of you want to meet Ellen DeGeneres although I also got a kick out of the entrant that wants to meet Brett Favre.

I wish from the bottom of my heart I could give away prizes to every last one of you. I really, really do. You all deserve it! And I can’t wait to hear the stories about how all your new visions and dreams and intentions came true.

But since Hay House has only given me 4 pair of tickets, the organizers of the cruise to Alaska cancelled the cruise (sorry about that! Out of my hands!) and I’ve got a mere 25 Donor’s Choose cards, here are the names that came out of the hat:

A pair of tickets to any one of the four North American I Can Do It conferences:

1. Nora Giron-Dolce. This fabulous author from Mexico sent in numerous entries including meeting Paul McCartney and having a bestselling book in Mexico. She even wrote her affirmation on a beach—sound familiar?).

2. Laura Duksta. This multi-talented woman from Nashville, Tennessee is producing an album with all the big names in country music.

3. Brandi Russell. What isn’t Brandi doing? The coolest thing, beside her selfie wearing a top hot, is that Brandi is making sure kids know they’ve got the power to create worlds.

4. Carla Golden. Can’t wait to skate at this woman’s holistic skating center!!

I will send each of you a facebook message with instructions on how to claim your free tickets.

The following 25 names will be receiving a Donor’s Choose Card. I learned about this wonderful charity from Biz Stone, the founder of Twitter who I’ve blogged about on more than one occasion. He learned about Donor’s Choose from Stephen Colbert when he appeared on his show, the Colbert Report.

Basically, you’ll be getting the chance to pick a classroom to support (on me), a classroom that might need say 25 copies of Charlotte’s Web or clay for a pottery project. If you see your name here, please send me your address (see the contact form here) so I can forward on your card.

1. Heather Alpers.
2. Carrie Sailer Starr
3. Allison Volk
4. Dana Dolsen
5. Asa Thuvesen
6. Greg Hamel
7. Wayne Adkins
8. Madonna Murphy

Miracles are natural, normal daily occurrences for those with the eyes to see.

‘If miracles had chemical equations then everyone would believe.”
― Cecelia Ahern
Let me start by announcing that 24 winners have been chosen for the E-Cubed Selfie Challenge. As I’ve said countless times, everyone who entered automatically won because by simply creating a new vision for yourself, you’ve started the ball rolling for that reality’s manifestation. So congratulations to all!

An official announcement will be made tomorrow.

For today, I want to share a miracle story, one of many discussed in yesterday’s power posse. We had so much fun talking about these so-called miracles that we decided two things:

1.A miracle is only labeled a miracle until science decides to put its stamp on it, decides to call it “doable.” Who’d have thought 200 years ago we could flip a switch and create light or talk with a human being on the other side of the planet?

2. We decided that miracles are NOT anomalies and we look forward to the day when people discuss their latest miracles the way we discuss the weather.

I, for one, am committed to being that crazy person who believes in magic and mystery and things without logical explanations.

When Robbin was a young girl, she had a pet named Missy Mouse. As Rhonda pointed out, one man’s vermin is another man’s pet. Anyway, the wheel in Missy’s cage squeaked so Robbin’s mom, not a fan of squeaky wheels, insisted she leave the cage on the back porch. One day, when the temperature dropped below freezing, young Robbin went out to find Missy in full-blown rigor mortis, her tiny mouse legs stiff and sticking straight up in the air.

Robbin, of course, knew the Bible stories, and decided to bring Missy back to life.

Her embarrassed mother tried to explain that Missy had gotten too cold and had frozen to death.

“Well that’s okay,” Robbin said, “We can put her in the oven.”

Her mom, trying desperately to think of the best explanation for her faith-filled daughter, finally agreed to hang the cage up by a heating vent.

Robbin, in the way only a small child can believe, prayed for Missy’s future. They both went on with their day.

And within a couple hours, “Squeak, squeak.”

Missy Mouse was not only alive, but she was running once again in her squeaky hamster wheel.
