What if? A Coronavirus Conspiracy Theory

“Worry and fear are not spiritual practices.”—Michael Beckwith Only-Love-is-Real

When you believe, as I do, that the universe constantly conspires for your good, you can’t help but notice the silver lining. As Jack Kornfield says, “This virus isn’t happening to us. It’s happening for us.”

What if this is the universe insisting we slow down, that we become still and listen for a change—not to what some box or little device is shouting at us—but to what our hearts are saying? What the trees are whispering? What our loved ones on the other side are telling us over all the noise?

What if this is the down time we’ve long professed to want so we can write a song? Or a poem? Or a bedtime story for our four-year-old? Shakespeare, I’ve heard, used a  quarantine to write King Lear. Newton discovered calculus.

What if this is our big chance to rewrite everything? Do we want to keep believing we’re imprisoned by the senseless laws of the world? That we’re dependent on stacks of green paper strips and piles of metal discs? Do we want to remain beholden to the marketed idea that we won’t survive without our little pills or our jobs where we do things we don’t particularly want to do for eight hours a day?

Today’s Course in Miracles lesson asks us to dismiss all these foolish beliefs. It asks us to hold our minds in silent readiness to hear the Voice that speaks of Truth. It asks us to declare our freedom from the tyranny of the cultural Kool-aid.

What if this is an inflection point in our history? Our invitation to finally embrace our highest selves?

  2. So true and We are not victims, but in this wonderful mysterious experience called life.

  3. I believe the virus is teaching us, testing us, showing us true colors. How we respond will be a true testament to the truth in our hearts – both individually and collectively. Thank you, as always, for this reminder. 🙂

  4. YES!!!  Exactly this!  I have been so inspired by your work that I am dreaming up plans to create a community possibility posse and classes to support women at a local healing arts center. Thank you so much!   I will channel my inner Shakespeare and hunker down to CREATE while slowing down and loving the time I’m able to spend at home with my family. We’re really blessed to be able to work and learn (school) from home.   Stay safe and healthy!  And thanks for the inspiration!  💕

  5. Dear Pam,

When I found this in my e-mail, I knew it would not only be a must-read, but a must-share. Thank you for all that you do. I appreciate you!

  6. Great post, much needed right now. Had been thinking about correcting my thoughts and feelings about all that’s going on when I was preparing a customer order and the house number was 222, seeing that reminded me I was being caught up in all the wrong thoughts and that I needed to think positively and just an hour later your post appeared !

  7. Dear Pam,
    Thank you for being you…
I truly believe this virus is the planet telling us we need to slow down and consider our actions. This is not a time to panic its time to reflect on what is truly important to us.
Please keep doing what you are doing, the world needs more people like you.
    Jill ❤️

  8. Yes! May the voice of wisdom be louder than the voice of fear! This quarantine should give the wiser the opportunity for self reflection and personal growth. May we all use this time as the beautiful gift it can be. 💕😇❤

  9. This virus is proof that we truly are all one, and must take care of each other with love and care. This is not a time for war or hate. True love to everyone even strangers, homeless, and the disadvantage. This
    Virus is not discriminating to
Whom it touches. We must radiate love to all!

  10. Dear Pam,

We are in tune, as usual. I see this as a great opportunity to rethink the world, as we know it, both at a micro and macro levels.

I wrote this in my IG account, this morning:

Did you know that at some point in their life, elephants leave the group and stay alone? This is a perfect time to be alone and come home to yourself, something that many people may find scarier than running out of toilet paper. It’s a great time to go inside, cultivate inner peace, and realize that the ultimate freedom resides in your mind. No more escaping from yourself; just find your way home. It’s time to slow down and reflect. Maybe this respite from the world is just what you need to make decisions and take action towards a more meaningful and fulfilling life chapter.

Thank you for being the light and always spreading love no matter what, dear Pam.

    Love 💙

  11. YES & AMEN, Sister, thank you for sharing! CHOOSE YOU THIS DAY WHO YOU WILL SERVE: GOD, which IS LIFE & LOVE… or coronavirus (anything that is NOT GOD), which is death! YOUR CHOICE! BLESSINGS, MIRACLES & LOVE… Elle💕

  12. Amen, Pam.
Yesterday, I spent the majority of my morning with the trees in the woods. They were not anxious at all. I thanked them for their Presence. After lunch: a second walk in the forest followed by an hour in a hot bathtub. Mmmmmm. A quiet walk of amazement and appreciation; a meditative soak. It doesn’t get any better than this!
Thank you, Pam, for being you!

  13. Offered in love, the following is a BOTH/AND comment (not an either/or):

I am reminding myself to stay in touch with my own awareness of privilege during these days. Literally, I just Googled the term “privilege and coronavirus” and found some thoughtful links such as there:

    God bless us EVERY one!

  14. You are an amazing, brilliant ray of light, and I love the pure poetry of your message and you, too! sharing…

  15. Thank you, Pam! We are in a beautiful test to see if we can remain with hearts open 💗 We can look back upon this time and smile. Love, Danielle

  16. Thank you, Pam. I’ve been trying to be still to figure out what lessons these times are trying to teach us. Yet, I’m having a hard time seeing the silver lining to my niece being isolated in a hospital with a scary health diagnosis and no visitors to lift her spirits. I hope that all of the collective prayers we’re sending will let her know that she’s not alone.

  17. Thanks, Pam. I have been trying to be still to learn the lessons these scary times are trying to teach us. Yet, I haven’t yet seen the silver lining to my niece being isolated in a hospital with a scary diagnosis and no visitors to comfort her. I can only hope that our collective prayers are reaching her and letting her know she’s not alone.

  18. Loved your point of view, I am seeing this an an opportunity to amplify love and to give more of our attention to our spiritual practice and less to the outer world, that is where the change begins.

  19. Yes, Once you know the Universe is benevolent it’s obvious that this must bring good. My daughter and I were wondering how many parents, after spending 2 or 3 weeks at home with their kids because the schools had closed would discover how much they LOVED helping their kids learn, and now choose to home-school?
And how many office-based workers, forced to work online from home, would find they get so much more done in an easy and relaxed way, without the stress of the polluting commuting, that they’d look for ways to make working from home permanent?
And how many people, avoiding visiting big shopping malls would rediscover the delights of their own local High Street/Main Street?
Once the pandemic is over, we could see a mass outbreak of sanity!

  20. As an introvert, I am in my element. Thank you for mentioning the other benefits!
    Namaste’ dear Pam.

  21. Thank you for your spiritual wisdom and for being a light in the dark. One of our key lessons from this, I believe, is that we must get to the point of really understanding and acting as if we are all one. And, when we are in fear, we are not in a state of love. If we want our shadow of separation to heal, we must bring it up for all to see. I expect this will be one of many events that will help us see and heal this most crucial illusion.

  22. I think another message COVID-19 is trying to tell us is: We Are All Connected – what happens on the other side of the globe can affect us and we need to understand by all working together as a world we can conquer all.

  23. Yes! I’ve been encouraging all of my circle to make lists of WHAT IS GREAT ABOUT THIS? It’s fascinating to see how quickly we jumped at the chance to cash in this global “Get out of Jail Free” card, in this life size Monopoly Game (bored game….) Gratitude for the Gifts delivered via Corona

  24. I woke up thinking the same thing this morning! I believe that this is divine intervention. Our world has been spinning out of control and something needed to happen. This will change a lot of things not the least of which will be a humbling, cohesive movement

  25. Wow Pam, I thought about this too! Wouldn’t it be nice if people stop and think for a moment, instead of rushing every day for shopping? Wouldn’t it be nice if those who never heard an angel’s voices heard them for now? Thank you Pam, I am so happy to read your blog! 🎈🎈🎈

  26. Thank you Pam. I love this post…I’ve been feeling like the odd one out, not getting involved with the frantic conversations about coronavirus. As always, the right words come just when you need them the most xoxo

  27. I couldn’t agree more! BTW I am loving your new book, The Course in Miracles Experiment. I laugh every day when I read the day’s lesson. You’re making this easy for me. Thank you.

  28. Response to mass negativity and beliefs. Fear. Belief in statistics.

I am beyond group beliefs or the calendar. I am free from all congestion and influence.

Louise Hay. ‘You Can Heal Your Life’

  29. O, I love you for saying those words so much. This is exactly how I feel.
This is our wake up call to re-evaluate our values…maybe even start thinking for ourselves without being fed what we’re supposed to think by the outside sources…
I choose to believe in the power and resiliency of the human spirit.
Think about 9/11 or any major natural disaster how those moments bring people together…we see so many random acts of kindness.
People in Italy in spite being quarantined are coming together by singing.

I choose to believe that this virus is happening for us, not to us.

  30. Well said – I couldn’t agree more. Thank you for all of your blessed wisdom, humor and love. You are a light I look forward to every time I check my inbox! Stay safe and much love. XO
