The Taz Grout 222 Foundation was launched to honor Tasman McKay Grout who spent 25 short years on the planet inspiring everyone who knew her to live and love better. Everything she stood for was some variation of this theme: create relentlessly, love fiercely and do quiet, kind things for the underdog.
Each year on February 22, the 222 Foundation awards a $12,222 grant to an innovative project or person with a big idea to change consciousness and therefore change the world.
We look for projects that support the following ideas:
1. A change in perspective is our greatest need. We believe all people (no exceptions) long to be generous and create beautiful things.
2. Today’s hopelessness is based on false premises. We look to defy the old story of scarcity, lack and the need to fight for resources. We aim to prove that the universe, once liberated from no-longer-working paradigms of scarcity, is generative and endlessly abundant.
3. The us against them model is kaput. We believe all humans are interconnected and that even tiny actions have great significance
“Nobody’s ego or belief systems are of any value to society at all. The world is neither good nor bad nor defective, nor is it in need of help or modification. Its appearance is only a projection of one’s own mind. No such world exists.”–David R. Hawkins

My mom was a pianist and church organist which meant the soundtrack of my childhood was hymns and Broadway tunes.
One of my favorites to sing came from the musical, “Annie Get Your Gun.” Annie Oakley and Frank Butler, playing one-upmanship, sang “Anything you can do I can do better. I can do anything better than you.”
I think of that song whenever I think about J.C. You know the cute guy with the beard and sandals that, according to the Bible, told us point blank that “Any miracle he can do, we can do better. We can do any miracle better than him.”
So far, I’ve yet to walk on the Sea of Galilee or turn water into my favorite glass of Cabernet, but neither activities reside on the top ten of my bucket list.
I’m more motivated by miracles of love, where people who used to hate each other realize they don’t. Or where some limiting belief that kept me stuck in an old pattern gets turned into a whole new possibility.
So why has it taken us so long to embrace J.C.’s exhortations to perform miracles?
One simple reason. We’ve spent the last 2000 years colluding with our egos, getting our intel from that little voice in our head that tells us we’re powerless and that it’s better to play it safe.
The ego is a crafty mother that has been yanking our chains for too long. It’s loud and it lies and it dishes up the fake news that we are nothing but crumbling bodies destined to die horrible deaths.
It tells us that other people are scary. That we must protect ourselves.
But it’s all smoke and mirrors.
It’s time, guys. We’ve got to quit colluding with the ego. We’ve got to quit colluding with our wounds, with our problems.
Instead, we must join forces with the light, the love, the creativity and the beauty inside each and every one of us.
And, as I like to say on Fridays, have the best weekend of your life.

“Reality is so vast that there is no way from our small place in the universe to see it all. We create cultural constructs of our knowledge and try and make the whole vast infinite universe fit in our tiny little boxes.”
― Lyssa Danehy deHart

Whatever affliction you believe about yourself is a hoax. It’s a tiny box that you continue to animate by your belief in it.
I know it seems like stone-cold fact that you are depressed or financially challenged or still suffering the aftermath of something your parent did or didn’t do.
But it’s just not true.
It seems true because you’ve collapsed the wave of that reality. In the quantum world, the observer (that’s you expecting and believing things are a certain way) interacts with all the possible superpositions (the world’s unlimited possibilities). Once you collapse the wave (the particular state or affliction you’ve been colluding with), all other possibilities vanish. As you feed those thoughts, that one reality grows more and more solid.
So if you really insist on believing in your affliction, just make sure to couch it like this:
I am temporarily having thoughts about being depressed. Or being poor. Or_________________.
And know those thoughts are one tiny possibility and that there are even more superpositions (possibilities) where you are ecstatically happy and financially secure and completely free from anything at all that occurred in your past.
The superposition you feed with your attention is the one you will animate into your life.
So which wave do you choose to collapse today: That you’re a hot mess? Or that you’re hot shit?

“Forget the to-do list. Create a to-be list.”—Kelly Sullivan Ruta

Here in the United States, we just ended Daylight Savings Time. If nothing else, this tinkering with the clocks is a potent reminder that time is a construct we made up, a construct we all agree upon and a construct we can change at any time.
As my hero Alby E. used to say, “Time is but an illusion, albeit a persistent one.”
So here’s my proposal:
Let’s rewrite the construct of time as a prison (“I never have enough.” “There’s too much to do.”).
Instead of a number on a clock face, let’s approach time as an unlimited gift of pure presence. As deep moments just to be.
Congress created Daylight Savings Time.
We get to create our personal approach to time.
Do you want surface time? Ferrari, go, go, go time?
Or do you choose deep time: where all is possible, all is unlimited, all is here?
My Course in Miracles lesson a couple days ago was “This instant is the only time there is.” It reminded me that the only real interval of time is now. No past. No future.
This beautiful moment is pulsing with possibility. Let’s grab it by the balls. Forget to-do lists, rushing, worrying, the forfeiture of our gifts that are right here, right now.
We have the power to conceive of time differently. I don’t know about you, but I’m changing my time zone today.

“We rush through our days in such stress and intensity, as if we were here to stay and the serious project of the world depended on us. We worry and grow anxious; we magnify trivia until they become important enough to control our lives. Yet all the time we have forgotten that we are but temporary sojourners on the surface of a strange planet spinning slowly in the infinite night of the cosmos.” —John O’Donohue
I know. I probably sound like an ad for a bank. Come in, open a new checking account and claim your free ice chest.
But that’s not the kind of gifts I’m referring to. I’m talking about the continuous stream of gifts bestowed by the natural world. As I was driving home from pickleball this morning, I noticed a brilliant scarlet branch on a maple tree just blocks from my home. It literally made me gasp.
Every day, nature presents us with unbelievably beautiful gifts: stars that are billions of years old, fuzzy caterpillars crawling across our paths, hydrangeas, yellow butterflies. The gifts seem to be endless once you take time to look.
Even those who live in inner cities receive the gift each morning of the breaking dawn, signaling the possibility of a new day. As my new favorite poet, John O’Donohue says, “You never know what will land on the shoreline of tomorrow.”
So sure, material gifts like ice chests and toasters and, for that matter, new Michael Kors purses are okay. But the gifts I prefer remind me that I live in a galaxy that is one of a gazillion galaxies that has hundreds of billions of stars and enough gas and dust to make hundreds of billions more.
And because of my inseverable connection to this expanding, cosmic mystery, I have the responsibility to also create new things.
I believe that’s why all of us are here. To behold our wonderous gifts and to keep the creation going.

“The second I decide something is done, it’s done. I just have to wait for all y’all to see it.”—Will Smith
Or in many of our cases, we have to wait for ourselves to see it. The minute we make any intention, it’s real, it’s a viable creation. But until we can feel it and actually “be it,” our intention stays on a vibrational plane that’s out of our sight.
Making intentions isn’t the problem. What you’ve been intending is already present. It’s just that you and me and everybody else is stubborn enough that we keep staring at its lack. Until we can catch up vibrationally, we are unable to see and enjoy our fabulous creations.
As Esther Hicks likes to say, “We’ve already created enough joy and happiness for 20 or 30 lifetimes.”
I hope this is a comforting thought. That our only responsibility is to get ourselves tuned into the joyful vibration where blessings flow, to begin resonating to the vibrational catalog of fun, love and laughter. We literally have to distract ourselves from all thoughts and emotions that block the natural flow.
Most of us are really good at the first part of the equation. Making the intention. But the second part, the part where we get out of our own way and allow love and joy and the new Mercedes Benz into our sphere of awareness is often more problematic.
So for right now, forget about your intentions. Just focus on every brilliant, juicy, fun delicious thought you can think of. Be grateful for every little thing. That’s everything that even remotely resembles your intention and everything that doesn’t. When joy is the dominant emotion, you’ll be able to pull good things out of the air like magicians pull rabbits out of hats.
