Can you believe it? Look at that sky.
It’s a refrain I seem to repeat to my partner nearly every morning. Before we light the incense and meditate, we often step outside just to see what’s going on, to see what new wonder awaits us in our little mini-forest here in Kansas.
Some people, of course, think the way to learn what’s going on is to turn on the TV or check FB. But I’ve discovered that everything those “news sources” broadcast is old news, something that happened maybe yesterday or 20 minutes ago.
My news program shows a brand new, just-this-moment, never-before-seen sky. The birds, even in the winter, are rhapsodizing about some great happening here in the neighborhood. It’s truly magical and I feel so blessed that this “newscast” is there for me every single morning to witness. Just now, looking out the window, I’m mesmerized by a comedian squirrel who is masterfully executing a two-paw pull-up to reach the chair where my partner left birdseed–not, I might add, with him in mind.
My life right now isn’t exactly how I might have planned it. It doesn’t quite match the picture on a vision board. But boy oh boy, are there still a lot of marvels in which to revel.
I can’t know what may come in the door tomorrow, what forest fire or new variant or who knows what might happen, but I can sure rejoice in what’s here right now, in my little wonderland in northeast Kansas.

Oh my gosh! You’ve just described my day, every day. I’m up at 5 and out the door for a walk by 6. I’m always blown away by the sky and how it’s never the same. Yesterday the snow cover glistened like meringue, today with warmer temps, it’s like sugar. The air, the sunrise, the birds all of it is worth marveling over. I too have crazy squirrels who hang upside down and seem to be waving with their front paws. Sometimes I wake up early and head out the door at 4am; full moon, make it 3am. Anyway, it’s nice to hear that I’m not the only one reveling in the awesomeness of the natural world. It colors my day as beautifully as the sunrise colors the morning sky.
My wish is that everyone finds a way to experience the peace and beauty that is ours to enjoy.

I live in Carmel by the Sea. The ocean, waves, seagulls, ocean life, wind blown shapes in the white sand, all new and perfect everyday. The calm sea is perfect as is the stormy sea with its bossy waves that cover our shores. Its all so wonderful. Always Love, K8T
Riotous birds call to one another and to me! I delight in watching the order they create so everyone gets to splash in the bird bath. In Seattle, daffodils have risen nearly 2 inches and spring is announcing itself!

Around 8 most mornings we have a visiting woodpecker somewhere hidden in a tree. I always leave our bedroom window open even in Winter. My husband Gareth and I both exclaim quietly, “There he is again!” We have not managed to see him but the sound of him makes us grin. Gareth gave me binoculars for Christmas so I may catch a glimpse very soon and of other wonders of wildlife. At night we marvel at the moon and stars before going to bed. xx
Beautiful photo of your stunning sky Pam. The sky and all that happens in it is one of my most favourite things. And you are so right – we live in a wonderland where nature blesses, delights and surprises us if we’re tuned to it’s news channel. Just now before I read your post I witnessed a “sunshine shower” that lasted less than a minute. The sky was full of turbulent dark grey clouds looking ready to burst but the sun was bravely shining anyway, even as those clouds let loose. And now, as I write, the sun is hiding, the clouds are waiting, and the birds are singing gleefully, and I am glad to be aware of and a witness to it all. Thankyou for your post Pam and for the reminder that no matter what may come in the door, there is magic all around us if we will only pay attention to it. 🌦🌄

Pam- I could picture in my mind your comedian squirrel, and was yelling- ‘yes, yes’ because I often look out our window and see one our residents animals here the beautiful Berkshires of Massschusetts. A few weeks ago before the ice was only around the edge of the lake we saw our Bald Eagle sitting on the ice looking into the yet unfrozen water fishing for his lunch. I’d rather see this amazing sight any day over the endless fear mongering on the news. Have an awesome day!
