Sit. Feast on your life.

“If we seek beauty, it will spill into our lives.”—Mary Pipher 00001l

So the title of this post “Sit. Feast on your life” came, not from a self-help book, but from my daughter Taz’s bedroom wall.

Being an artist myself, I allowed her to decorate her room however she chose. She drew a three-foot, eerily-accurate octopus on one wall, for example, and hung crystals, Korean ornaments and even a dinner fork from her ceiling. Last January, I visited Meow Wolf in Santa Fe and, call me a deluded mom, but their now-famous art installations have nothing on Taz’s bedroom.

On one wall, she penciled inspiring quotations—things like “Live what you love” and “You can see the whole world from here.” Any one of them would make a great blog post. Thank you, Taz, as always for being my inspiration.

I chose “feast on your life” because that’s what I believe we’re here to do. Not to complain about how life should be. Not to fight with reality.

But to look with love and wonder at the life we do have. To say thank you that we got the chance to be here on planet earth, to experience all there is to experience. As Rumi said, “This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival. Welcome and entertain them all. Even if they are a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, treat each guest honorably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight.”

I notice that when I meet my guests at the door laughing and grateful for whatever comes, I become a happier person, a better friend, a wiser decision maker. That’s enough of a goal for now.

Have the best weekend of your life, my treasured friends! 222 Forever!

  1. ‘Not to fight with reality’. Beautiful. I have been processing the lesson of ‘allowing’ and find that the less I fight with reality (even if only in my mind) the better everything flows. Truly, what we resist will persist. Letting go, allowing the Universe to do it’s thing is the only way to live and really see the positives in everything.
    Sending love to all!

  2. Thank you, my friend! This really hits home for me today. I so love and appreciate you ❤️🙂❤️

  3. My daughter Mollie is in Los Angeles and currently unemployed and looking for a new job and in stay at home orders… which makes sense. We have a saying together when things feel tough… we say “Let’s Pam Grout it”. Helps us rise above it. Thank you for your wonderful posts.

  4. Pam, your kindness and grace in what I’m sure have been difficult times is inspiring. I feel like Taz is here.

  5. I just sent my girlfriend The Guest House by Rumi who was presently struggling with anxiety. I always seem to share what I am working on learning and hopefully being myself. All your 222 candles were eye candy for me Pam❤️

  6. Good morning Pam from Australia, as always you are too, too, too, thinking of you with LOVE, Valerie.

  7. Mmm…!
    I love right now!
I love meeting your daughter more and more in your posts.
A blessed being bringing so much joy.
I would love to share photos of my daughter’s ceiling and wall. Anyway Taz can see it and tell you about it if she thinks it’s a good share.

Love love love to you, Pam.

  8. Thank you Pam once again for starting my day off with a beautiful message full of truth and joy.

  9. Pam I was deep in the forest when for some reason I pulled my phone out and saw this post. It meant so much to me, it was just perfect! I just love Taz, She was truly a teacher for us all. I feel her spirit deeply and you know the day after she made her transition, the car in front of me had a license plate of all 2’s, I think 7 of them, I sent you the pic and then the other amazing sign from the restaurant in Oregon, and many more. Sometimes the young ones that have this “larger than life” energy come and go so quick and they remind us that there is no death, only connection and love. That is how I see Taz.(and Sal)
With so much love for you both!

  10. Feasting on life makes more sense than feasting on all the negative around these days. Because it’s been so quiet around, my daughter walked out the back door last night to be greeted by a friendly raccoon. She wished it a good night and slipped back inside. It’s their world after dark. Nature is getting it’s chance finally.

  11. “You can see the whole world from here.” Thank you Pam and Taz. This was what I needed today as I work out some kinks in my thinking.

  12. I so look forward to your posts. I love how you keep your daughter close and so alive with you always. Even though my daughter passed almost twenty years ago she visits me each day with a lovely message from a beautiful bird or flower. Always with us…..always in our hearts…..love forever….🙏❤️🙏
