Who rules the kingdom of your mind?

“Rule your mind or it will rule you.”― Horace

My Course in Miracles lesson a couple days ago was, “I rule my mind, which I alone must rule.” Each of us is in charge of the kingdom of our minds.

Right now, there are a lot of crazy people circling the kingdom walls shouting “the sky is falling.” And plenty of town criers preaching despair. There’s even an airplane flying overhead with a banner: “Danger, danger. Take cover.”

But there’s also a dot, dot AND. There’s also a bigger story going on.

Which is why in the kingdom of my mind, I frequently pose this question: “AND what else is true?”

Even in Houston right now, there are neighbors helping neighbors. People opening their homes. Volunteers and supplies pouring in. If you look for it, there is always an underlying love story.

My mind is sometimes lazy and lets its kingdom fall prey to anguish. It’s a scary rabbit hole to fall into. In that kingdom’s narrative, there’s no end to the arguments that “life sucks.”

But for me, it’s an indefensible way to live.

When the drums of distress start reverberating throughout the kingdom, it’s time–for me at least–to get up and look around, to see what else is happening?

To remind myself that this galaxy in which I live, one of a gazillion galaxies, has hundreds of billions of stars and enough gas and dust to make hundreds of billions more.

I remind myself that because of my connection to this expanding, cosmic mystery, I also have the responsibility to create new things, things that were not there the day before.

Looking for the love beat beneath the dominant melody and creating something that does not yet exist is the best way I know to rule the kingdom of my mind.

  2. i too have received your new book Art & Soul Reloaded. do i read it from cover to cover or stop at each experiment and try it before trying the next ? and that question is also for your last book Thank and grow rich which i haven’t finish reading yet.

  3. I’m glad you posted this today. I too get caught up in all the hoopla. In those times I stay off social media, send Reiki, meditate, work on my creative projects and breathe. Years ago Neale Donald Walsch said to me, “Contemplate these words: Nothing matters, and you think it does.” It took me a few years to get what he meant by that, but when I did I could see that we are merely players, as Shakespeare said. Backstage there are all kinds of wonderful things going on. Sometimes people get mad at me for not getting all bent out of shape when seeming disasters happen but I don’t care. It’s a comfort to know that I don’t have to live in the drama.

  4. Realization coming out of meditation;
“I am Rich. I have oceans of air to breathe! millions of thoughts to choose to think! Trillions of ideas and beliefs to try, keep, discard, improve and build upon! And billions of people to meet, interact with, notice and choose which to have the fun of life with!!
The sky is is full of all of the wonders I choose to notice by looking up at it!!
    I so love your sharings!!

    “.”

  5. I think that these things happen so the good can show up and change can happen. We want things to stay as they have always been and that stagnates our lives. I have empathy but not attachment. The one emotion I want to feel no matter what is happening in the world is compassion. Being upset or angry serves no one. I like how you always find a great way to explain things.

  6. Even though the things from the hurricane more devastating it did bring out the best in people and I believe that it will shift the way people think I think it’s a plan of the universe because we really needed that

  7. Brilliant. Your words help me find center. Right where the heart is. It’s all unfolding perfectly (and I look within to continually find ways to share the love and keep it flowing). All blessings.

  8. needed to hear this. I left for Europe on faith and the help of a friend, and some unexpected cash flow for the summer. Now returning to the US with not a clue where I will live, and no offers of help. People think I like being a nomad, but I really just need and want a home of my own. I believed when I left in June that things would be taken care of when I returned. somehow. Let’s see how that plays out.

    1. Amazing.. to see how your journey will unfold. I had a similar experience with a slightly different subject. My rent, 3 days before the deadline of paying my delayed rent payment, a solution came! And 2 weeks before that a lady I hardly knew, donated me an amount of money. So it really works.. I knew it would turn out ok and did not take any action then aligning with the feeling that it would be ok and only take inspired action. Sure I had some doubts & yet it all worked out just fine for me in awesome ways.
So I wish that your miracle home will find you.

  9. So here I sit, in my air conditioned home during the record breaking temps in the Bay Area. I have food to eat, a car to drive, work with people I love, and good health.
The part I have trouble with is why have those hundreds of thousands of people end up with Hurricane Harvey? Did they ALL not think right? Help me out here, Pam!

  10. Thanks Pam for your vision & inspiring blogposts. Right on time for me to read this.
I do not know a lot of the drama over there. I use it in the drama I experience right here in my (family) environment.

“Looking for the love beat beneath the dominant melody.”
    Yep, that’s a good one.

    “And what else it true?”
“Which underlying love story is there?”

These are really good questions to find love first and find ways to share it, so people around me will notice the love also. And the flow of love keeps going on.
And most important, once aligned with love, people will see it everywhere over & over again.

Alignment with love & experience the synchronicity.

  11. Hi!
The question you pose, “what else is true?” is a positive jolt to the negativity that so much of the world provides about how much “life sucks!”
In my journey to transition my mind from fear based thinking, to love based thinking, asking “what else is true?” can bring my mind back to the positive light that is in the world if we are only willing to look for it.
I am learning in a Course in Miracles, that miracles are all around, we simply choose to not see them and center on the negative instead ;-( Working on changing my perception is where the love is at, and is definitely worth the effort to embrace to bring a more peaceful and loving heart into our lives.
Thanks for sparking my mind Pam!

  12. Thank you. I’m currently clueless about what to do with my life. Can you or anyone suggest what to do?
