Do something wonderful today

“Do something wonderful, people may imitate it.”–Albert Schweitzer larvae1

Hey party people, I’ve missed you.

I’ve been in Ojai, California away from digital stimulation. While I happily wait for my flight to Orlando and the sure-to-be-magical Soulapalooza, thought I’d offer up a quick blog post.

Anytime I’m in California, I think of Stan. Remember the guy I met at Esalen? The one I talked about in the opening of E-Squared? How we huddled together in the massage room to stay warm only to realize the next morning there was a space heater we could have been using all along?

I’m happy to report that Stan and I are still friends. And I want to share this magical story he recently posted on Facebook along with a picture of a big juicy monarch caterpillar.

Take it away, Stan:

“In 1997, 120,000 monarch butterflies wintered over in Santa Cruz. That number dropped to 1,300 by 2009 and has never recovered. The loss of milkweed, an important food source, is the main reason for the population collapse. So, I planted milkweed in my garden this year and there will be at least one more monarch butterfly as a result. This monarch caterpillar enjoying the milkweed looks healthy as can be.”

Stan’s small action (planting milkweed in his own garden) is a beautiful reminder of the new world we’re calling forth. It’s a reminder that we’re not powerless. It’s an antidote for those days when we think the world is going to you-know-where in a you-know-what.

Any act of love, even a small one like planting milkweed in your backyard, radios a certain frequency out across the universe. Every thought, every action, emits invisible subterranean threads.

All of us wildly underestimate the impact we have on each other. We discount the tremendous effect even the smallest act has on all of humanity.

Everything I do affects everything else.

Anytime I love myself more, I send love out into the bigger whole. Anytime I forgive someone who allegedly “wronged” me, I help heal the planet. The small invisible things that many don’t validate or think important have great healing power. You grabbing the shopping bags of the 82-year-old widow at the grocery store may never go viral on Facebook, but, on some level, it’s going out, making waves in the invisible energy field that forms the blueprint for the material world.

How cool is that that by believing in oneness, by choosing to add energy to the resonant field of possibility, you can fundamentally change the world.

Looking for possibilities is good for the planet. And contributing your small piece stands up for all of humanity.

What little thing are you going to do today to change the old story?

  2. We’ve missed you too, Pam! I have been so fired up by TAGR!! What a book. I loved E2 and E3,but this one takes it to another level, and has encouraged me to upgrade my gratitude practice – with spectacular results! Thank you so much, both for this post and the fabulous TAGR, and have an amazing time at Soulapalooza. It sounds as if it will be so much fun! xx

  3. So glad you wrote this Pam! I belong to a local group of “urban homesteaders” who grown their own food, raise chickens, swap and share lots of things. Recently a lovely lady posted that she had free seeds to share-milkweed! I went over to her place to pick them up and she’d already bagged them and put in growing instructions. So Novato, CA will have more monarchs next year, too.

    1. I love the monarchs! I would love to share our experience. We have a lot of milkweed plants in our yard and we noticed some wasps that were coming around and eating the monarch caterpillars. I know that this is part of nature, but it really bugged me. So we bought some extra milkweed plants and put them inside our screened in pool deck. We then transferred the caterpillars to our protected environment. When they emerge from their cocoons we gently use a butterfly net and set them free. Truly Magical! I also have a secret to share. When our milkweed plants put out pods of seeds, I collect them and randomly scatter them around our neighborhood. Much Love!

  4. I would love to share your posts on my FB fan pages and/or my website–is there a way to do so? You say much of what I think–better than I do 🙂

  5. While I absolutely LOVE the gorgeous FALL colors in Wisconsin, I’m not a fan of raking billions and gazillions of leaves! A slight anxiety sets in at the thought of how to manage! This year I told myself not to stress and just handle it little by little. I was thrilled to find last weekend as I drove up toward the house, 7-boys in MY yard raking MY leaves! Yes SEVEN high school boys raking as part of their honors program volunteering to rake leaves! They wouldn’t accept any money just water and candy! I was so happy that I wanted to pass it on ! So my son, his buddy and I raked our neighbor’s leaves. (She’s a cute lil older woman. lives alone and typically hires someone to help with yardwork.) She was so happy she baked us a loaf of pumpkin bread! – yum! I think I’ll make it an annual Fall tradition to find someone else’s yard to rake. So dreading raking has now become a thrill – a source of anticipation to surprise someone by helping with a chore that’s honestly not that bad. The buzz from the good deed is still buzzing!

  6. Hey Pam just tried to download Planet Goodwill app and it says its not axailable. Will it become available again, I had it on my old phone but lost it when I got my new one! Thanks and great post ‘As Always’ (:

  7. wow wow WOWWW!!! Pam, your real life analogy of the butterfly and the trillion different possibilities for change that are out there (here!!) every day for US to do something with…..is nothing short of brilliantly powerful. Every little thing we do MATTERS in a potentially BIG way…..it makes the smallest action count. Thank you for a very vivid and ‘real’ reminder😊

  8. The other day I boarded a crowded bus with standing room only. An Asian lady was the last person to get on. The driver insisted she get off as he must have felt the bus was too full. She did not speak English and did not understand him. Then I also realised she had some companions she was travelling with who were already on the bus, so she did not want to be parted from them. The driver was being a total ass saying,, “get off” in a rude tone. I decided to offer to trade places with her so she could stay on and I got off. I gave her a little wave and a smile and the bus drove off and she waved back. I caught the next bus, got a seat and this bus took me straight to my door (good karma). It was a small gesture on my part, but made a difference to her. I felt uplifted by doing a random act of kindness.

  9. Love this, what a beautiful story and just love your emails and books. Just finished Thank and Grow Rich and am about to start it again. Thank you.

  10. The key to the Universe: “Anytime I love myself more, I send love out into the bigger whole. Anytime I forgive someone who allegedly “wronged” me, I help heal the planet.”

  11. Thank you again Pam.

The Universe conspired with me to make something out of the blue happen.

My best friend sent me a Facebook Message to ask me if I wanted her to come on November 16 to give me a pedicure? D’uh!!! I asked her if she would be up to doing my Son’s girlfriend’s feet as well and she agreed. So I messaged my Son’s girlfriend and made her day too, since she has never had a pedicure by my best friend and that it was my treat. Pay It Forward. 😀 Do something nice for someone. I planted Milkweed in a different way to feed another Monarch Cocoon.

  12. I hope you can put out something affirming in reference to the election. I love your work. thank you.
