Being fearless is jumping even if you are afraid

“Gratitude bestows reverence, allowing us to encounter everyday epiphanies, those transcendent moments of awe that change forever how we experience life and the world.”—John Milton

The Universe is even better than the post office at delivering blessings. In spite of my shortcomings, miracles just keep on showing up. My weekend at Omega couldn’t have been more perfect. Perfect weather. Perfect group (the 35 souls who took the Magic and Miracles workshop were all beautiful geniuses who helped make the workshop SO EASY) and I even got the perfect rental car at LaGuardia—a powder blue VW beetle.

As you regulars to the blog know, workshop and easy are not words I usually say in the same sentence. I’ve talked a lot about my discomfort and fears that, as I often say, get so active that I’ve considered buying them a training bra.

The other blessing in this regard is something the comedian Pete Holmes told my friend, Jessica Ortner, on her Adventures in Happiness podcast. He said it took four years before he was comfortable doing standup. Four fricking’ years! Which makes me feel okay that, even though “my year of speaking dangerously” ended in March, I can “deeply love and accept myself” even when I’m still scared.

AND most importantly, I can continue to jump even when I am afraid.

For those who are interested, here’s my TedX talk where I definitely jumped anyway.

  1. HI Pam, Did I miss something? Where’s the link to your TED talk? I googled but didn’t find it. Thanks, SAM

  2. Pam, I didn’t see the link either. Had tried to find it on my own the other day, but couldn’t.

  3. Love this post.  Thanks The Joyful Palette  –  Art by Jaquith

  4. Great speech!
For those who do not believe in syncronicity, It was just yesterday when I “discovered” Jessica Ortner’s EFT uplifing videos:)
Dear Pam, each time I read something too serious about methafisics and spiritual “perfection” and all that stuff starts to smell just as a luck of self compassion and joy, I go “back to Pam” and spontaneousley smile.
This was ment to be a compliment. A huge one:)

  5. “Never mind,” as Rosseanne Roseannadanna would say! Found it and gonna watch it now.

  6. I LOVE your TedX talk, Pam!!! Thank you for jumping. I’m off to the dollar store for my 99 cent journal.

  7. Your TedX talk was just what I needed to hear today! I felt the need to buy a new journal the other day while I was out shopping so I could jot down any ideas or things that inspire me – but haven’t cracked it open yet. Instead I’ve just continued complaining about how frustrated & stuck I am. I think this was the kick in the pants I needed to actual start using it and get myself back on track! Thanks Pam!

    1. The best strategy is to make it “no big deal.” We stop ourselves with perfectionism. It doesn’t matter what you write. As I said in the talk, “Dare to be mediocre.” It takes the pressure off. And the universe will show up when we show up.

      1. Thanks so much Pam! That’s exactly what I need to work on. I’m gonna focus on making today a “no big deal” day!

  8. A Lovely Compliment to our Omega Group! Thank You, but know that the Workshop and YOU were a total Home Run! You were honest…You were fearless …and You were YOU…and the results… Extraordinary. Bravo!

  9. Most excellent, Pam, most excellent. Going to get that notebook. Also going to go reread E-Cubed and E-Squared.

  10. A lovely and very timely (for me) post, Pam! My buddy Molli and I (at 42 and 62 respectively) are doing a charity abseil for Cancer Research UK on Saturday from the 80m Orbit sculpture in the Olympic Park, London. We’re both definitely scared and don’t like heights, but have been sponsored to the tune of nearly £2000 so here we go!! Molli, bless her, keeps referring to it as a jump ( there’s no coincidence, is there?!) . E3 was definitely an inspiration for doing this too, so thank you once again Xxx
