The four major stages of reality-shaping consciousness–where’s your tent pitched?

“Being spiritual has nothing to do with what you believe and everything to do with your state of consciousness.”
― Eckhart Tolle

Our consciousness shapes and molds the reality that plays out in our lives. And there are many levels of consciousness, each with different rules, principles, characteristics and attributes.

For example, if you reside in the victim consciousness (“Things happen TO me,” “Life sucks and then you die” are a few standard thoughts from this level.), you can affirm and intend all you want, but your consciousness, the driver of your reality, which believes affirmations and intentions are a bunch of hooey always gets the last word. When you spend most of your waking hours in that consciousness (and it’s a very popular consciousness), your channels are plugged up. All the good that wants to come your way can’t get through.

Because we live in a multi-dimensional universe, there are dozens of different levels of consciousness, oftentimes residing in one person. For the purpose of this discussion, I’ve broken it down into four major consciousness categories. Each of these levels has dozens of subsets, all that play out in different ways in our lives. Let’s just say that my goal is to move closer to level four.

1. “The damn, not again” consciousness. The starting gate for most of us is some manifestation of victim consciousness. It varies from person to person, but the over-arching theme is we have no control over anything that happens in our life. The best we can do is work really hard, cross our fingers and hope that all the “shit” we hear about out there will somehow escape us.

2. “The woo-hoo! This is getting cool!” consciousness. One of the next levels (again it plays out differently in each person) is where we realize we have a say. We learn there are energetic laws that are just as reliable as physical laws. We discover that our thoughts are units of mental energy that play out in the world just as powerfully as the principles of gravity or aerodynamics.

Usually we move in and out of this consciousness, mixing it up with other levels. We still feel separate and still retain some of that “poor me” consciousness. In fact, we spend nearly as much time talking about what we don’t want as what we do. We still believe the things we want are out there, in the future, something we have to strive for.

3. The “Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.” consciousness. I am very happy to report that I spent nearly the entire year of 2013 in this consciousness. I got up every morning, celebrating, feeling good. I got up on the right side of the bed nearly every morning and boy, did things come to fruition for me. My book hit the New York Times bestseller list. I traveled to six different countries on four different continents. I got all kinds of new writing gigs. Editors contacted ME which, if you’re a freelance writer, you’d know never happens. I got emails from people all over the world, telling me how much they liked my book. And while all that was really cool and I’m intending it to happen again in 2014, the best part really was how blessed I felt.

And this is where the distinction should be made. People believe they will be happy when they achieve a certain level of success, when they find the perfect lover, when they heal from cancer. But that’s not how it works. All those things are byproducts of being happy.

This is one chicken vs. the egg that is not in question. Being grateful, being happy, feeling blessed ALWAYS comes first. In fact, most people say that when their “stuff” finally comes, the material things they got into this “thoughts creating reality” business in the first place they realize they’re beside the point. And that the gift, the real gift, is the joy they now see in the little things—the cute little heart the barista made into the foam on the latte, the squirrel running along the fence in glee, the softness of cashmere sweater you pull over your head.

4. “I am one with all” consciousness.
In this consciousness, which I must admit is not yet a 24/7 theme for moi, there is no sense of separation from anything. This consciousness knows it is one with Source. It knows it’s an indelible part of the F.P. It knows you are an unlimited being, hooked up with all that is. In this consciousness, everything is eternal and everything else (your thoughts, your reality) is subservient to this bottom-line spiritual Truth. When we’re lucky enough to view life from this consciousness, we are totally surrendered to the “all that is” and know nothing is missing from our life. And, in fact, by yielding to that consciousness, by giving it permission to play out in our lives, we come to realize that all those little intentions and manifestations we so dutifully held in our consciousness are small potatoes compared to this. It’s so much bigger and grander and woo-hoo’er than anything we could have ever imagined.

  1. I think now would be a very good time for us to start moving toward One With All Consciousness. Don’t you, your majesty. One of the things I have begun to notice since reading Arnold Patent’s books a few months back is that I am becoming more and more aware of my power. It’s a very gentle transition, as if I haven’t quite grown to believe it yet, but I am beginning to seriously contemplate it. I really like what Pam says in this blog post and so decided if you hadn’t received it yet, I’d best share.

    Much love,

    SSEK

  2. Pam, thanks again for putting the “huge” truth into digestible bites. I’ll be forwarding this to my E Squared study group. Until we get to at least “stage 3” I don’t think we can hear this often enough.

  3. Love this focus Pam. Definitely flickering between 2 and 3. When I make sure I keep up my spiritual practice…then 3 it is. Going into the Akashic Records for myself or clients definitely takes me to 4.

One-with-all can be hard to keep up when our Western focus is often on the two lower chakras and the solar plexus… more more more – what’s in it for me?? Working on keeping my focus on uniting all the chakras and I’ll keep shifting upwards.

Thank you for the clarity of your writing.

  4. I thought of you this morning my friend (yes, you are my friend since your in my head in every thought now with “WWPD” in every situation.

My daughter is traveling in Europe with Whittier college and woke me at 5:45am with a text, then my husbands alarm went off and my sons alarm went off and my son had to be at school extra early today – ohhhh I was grumpy!!!

I got back from dropping off my son and headed to the coffee maker that of course was left empty of water so I pull my pot filler over the coffeemaker and turn to rinse he caraf – I turn and see water over flowing all over the counter onto the floor – seriously? Then I remind myself, how I take this will decide the rest of my day and a shift happened. I laughed and pictures flowed through my thoughts – how lucky I am…my daughter is in Europe on a dream trip, my son was asked to do a special project at school, I have my brand new dream kitchen with a pot filler for my coffee!! Not 10 seconds passed and my 7:30am alarm went off and I hear the song you inspired me to wake up to “Don’t worry about a thing, every little thing is gonna be alright…” Three little birds. I laughed and went to get cleaning towels. Thank you!

Ps. Found another song for the morning happy dance…
Imagine Dragan “On Top of the World”! It makes me happy 🙂

Pss. Katy Perry, “Firework” is great too!

    Muahhhh!!!

  5. Wow! I am so grateful for this post… and your timing… Divine. This really helped me kind of give myself “permission” to bounce between the four and also I realized that being in gratitude constantly is OK. Sometimes, I fear it annoys others or seems in-your-face. This was a beautiful ,powerful read for me this morning. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing, Pam!

  6. Thank you Pam!! This post came at the perfect moment – synchronicity and actualizing at its best. Pierced through with such clarity and authenticity. Your post is in my “tool box” I’ve been putting together this year. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Jas

  7. Dear Pam,
After continuing to do Game 1 from Experiment #1 in E 3, I can definitely say I’m in 3! I also ask each day that wonderful information be imparted to me during the day and night, and this post was my first for the day; wow, what a start! Thank you!

  8. Really loved this post Pam. Thanks for the explanations as it makes the levels of consciousness so much easier to understand and gives a fabulous insight as to where I am at the moment.

  9. Reblogged this on Spirit In Action and commented:
Thank you Pam! I love the way you are able to simplify big ideas into things anyone can easily understand and do.
This is for everyone who would like a straightforward road map to “raising your vibration”, “manifesting” or basically just having a lot more fun and less stress in your life;-)

  10. I have a response to your “Thank you Thank you Thank you”. Some years ago during a very hard time where I felt much of what was important to me was lost, in response to a time of prayer about it, I looked down and saw a dime, and then these words came to me: “I am restoring back to you what was stolen 10 fold”. I knew God had spoken those words to encourage me. Since that time I have realized restoration in a few areas but finances continue to be a struggle. HOWEVER, many times I find dimes in the strangest of places, just to remind me the promises are still there. Sometimes I will find one dime and a penny side-by-side (my husband receives pennies…i.e. “pennies from heaven!”).

Last year was a very profitable year for our business. Due to some necessary but hard decisions that needed to be made this year, revenue is down by half. Feeling hopeful last year and a bit discouraged this year, I continued to express gratitude (though hard at times) for what we do have.

Today I purchased a cup of coffee and a muffin. I reached into my purse for the change and grabbed a fistful of pennies. I started to count out the pennies to give the cashier because who really needs a bunch of pennies cluttering up their purse? THEN I realized nearly ALL of them were shiny – later I counted 20. Astonished, I couldn’t help remarking, “where did all these shiny pennies come from?”. I started to give them to her then the thought occurred to me that these were a GIFT from GOD. I pulled them back saying I needed to keep them that these were “you know, pennies from heaven”. She gave me one-of-those-looks.

The really great experience for me in receiving this gift was I DIDN’T ASK FOR IT!!!! But I did take time to thank the One who gave it to me. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve received something I’ve needed without putting out a request.

Later I thought that perhaps I’d experiment with manifestation…just for the heck of it! I have both of your books (haven’t read them yet) but follow your blog so I have an idea of what your “experiments” are about. So….I asked for another handful of shiny pennies to appear in my purse by the end of the week. We’ll see…

In the meantime, I’m very happy with my surprises!

Thank you, I loved your post.

  11. Hi Pam, I really liked this post! I am currently manifesting a log home and everywhere I look, I’m finding log homes. I’m seeing photos of log homes, seeing log homes on television, saw a miniature log play house at a store and so much more. It’s crazy and exciting at the same time! I’m so glad that I discovered your books.
