“The sidewalks are littered with postcards from God.”—Walt Whitman

“We’re surrounded by things we cannot see.”–Louie Schwartzberg

An old boyfriend of mine, a rational, left-brain advertising man, was sitting at his office desk one Tuesday when he suddenly got up, jumped in his car and drove home. This never happened. He had trouble leaving work at day’s end.

He pulled into his driveway at the unheard of hour of two in the afternoon…just in time to thwart a thief making off with his new TV.

This was a guy who wouldn’t dream of uttering words like God or grace or guidance. As I recall, his favorite description of me was “way-too woo-woo.” Yet, even though he’d never before left his office in the middle of the afternoon, he somehow picked up a signal to stop work immediately, to drive home now.

In E-Cubed, my new book, I talk a lot about signs, about the fact the universe constantly leaves bread crumbs, even sends up roadside flares when we’re not paying attention.

Last weekend, I was in Sydney at the Australia Writer’s Weekend with Reid Tracy, president of Hay House, and Leon Nacson, president of Hay House Australia.

Leon told a funny story about his unlikely entry into the world of spirituality. Not that you can ever NOT be touched by the Divine. But a lot of us pretend not to notice. As for Leon, he was busy booking rock shows and running night clubs.

One day, while watching his favorite footy team, his stomach started rumbling. Eager to get back to the game, he reached into his cabinet and grabbed what he thought was Maalox. After downing nearly the entire bottle and noticing it tasted a bit weird, he took a closer look. It was calamine lotion and his stomach, he was aggrieved to admit, was now coated with 10 ounces of anti-itch meds.

He tried everything over the next few months to get rid of this nasty stomach coating, even agreeing to accompany his P.A. (personal assistant) to an after-work body cleanse that she had enlisted in her never-ending quest to drop LB’s.

To make a long story longer, the P.A. ditched the body cleanse, but Leon, who was desperate, attended and was introduced to the incredible world of mind, body, spirit, a field he had no idea even existed. He went on to write a book about dream interpretation, to meet and eventually promote Deepak Chopra (although when Deepak first called about coming Down Under, Leon thought he was saying Six Pack Chocolate, which he still calls him today) and, of course, to eventually join forces with Hay House.

The point I’m trying to make is we are all being guided, all being given signs, all the time.

Once we surrender, let go of the struggle and let the universe take the lead, everything starts to fall into place.

    1. Thank you, Beth! With the release of the new book, I feel like I’m standing around with my pants down, so it’s good to hear that my words are making a difference. Thanks!!!

  1. Love your new book!!!!! Tried to buy it the day before it came out at Barnes and Noble and no way would they let me buy it!!! So, I drove back the next day and bought it!! Really am enjoying it! Thabk you so much for your woo woo wisdom!

  2. Hi Pam. Thanks to E Squared, I was open to an opportunity when I attended what I thought was a straight up workshop on mapping personal purpose to business plans but found it was a Oneness Awakening workshop.

  3. I love this post! And being immersed in E-Cubed since last night, I’m in Pam Grout HEAVEN. E-Squared was amazing – awesome! But I think I just might love this book even more, if that’s possible. And, I ‘know’ this stuff! …but the way you write is so deliciously soul-stirring and funny and satisfying, I feel so connected whenever I read you. Relax. 😉 This book ROCKS!

  4. Can’t wait to get hold of e cubed had loads of success with e Sqared expecting the same from you’re new book thanks pam

      1. LOL. He “saved” the wrong thing.

Reading these other comments: – How wonderful the difference you are making in the world.

  5. Loved the blog article as much as I love E-Squared and E-Cubed. You are so gifted and so perfect for what I need. I so appreciate the message to let it go and let God and the Universe combine for something that is WAY better than we could create. 🙂 Thank you, Pam, for being so extraordinary!!

  6. Hi , I am loving the books, going with my gut so today at a high level conference I introduced myself to someone, he was totally un interested and I made quite a fool of myself,n front of a large crowd, I think I need to take more notice of the sights

    1. Lesley, Methinks that your making a “fool” of yourself will lead to something big. Down the road. I say don’t judge it. Applaud yourself for having the nerve. We need more “fools.” I consider it a great compliment anytime someone calls me foolish. Blessings always, Pam

  7. Thank you Pam Grout! Loved E-Squared and am happily devouring E-Cubed now. Your wonderful writing style lets me really “hear” what you’re saying:) Interesting how much better life gets when surrender comes to mean victory.

  8. What an awesome story, Pam. How cool to illustrate our choices about how we get to define our material experiences. How we get to define the very universe, in fact, that we inhabit.

We are experiencing a universe that we, and we alone, decide experience. Leon drank a bottle of calamine lotion – that’s bad, horrible, wrong, and can’t have any “good” in it at all! And that’s final!

    Right….

    If that’s what we decide.

Or we could decide to keep all possibilities open.

Hey, eight years ago I was six months from bankruptcy, foreclosures, and total ruin. That’s bad, horrible, wrong, and can’t have any “good” in it at all! And that’s final!

    Right…

If that’s what I had decided.

Thank you, me, everyone reading this, and the quantum field, that’s NOT what I decided!

Instead, like Leon (and so many of us), I got the most valuable education I could ever hope for. I learned to Grow a Greater Me. And, just like you, Leon, and all of us millions reading your books, I am soooooo grateful I learned that I am the only one who gets to decide what I experience!

  9. Hi and Thank you! You stated let go of the struggle? HOW??? My Best and Only friend just passed away, Im trying to find peace w/ that. We were on this journey of finding peace love and happiness. She was well on her way when suddenly she passed? HOW DO WE LET GO OF THE STRUGGLE? What is the struggle?

    1. The struggle is always in our own mind. Only our thoughts can make us happy or sad. I’m so sorry for your loss and I know you will find peace. There is peace in every situation and I pray for that for you.

  10. Thank you for your enlightening post. You remind me to not discount my intuition and to pay attention. I love E-Squared, and your entertaining writing style. I wish all books were as enjoyable to read as yours. I’m still practicing and opening my mind up to your great knowledge, information and experiments. Can’t wait to read E-Cubed.

  11. Talking about “coincidences”. My husband’s car has been parked in the street for 4 days, as he’s on a trip. This happens often, but this time, I’ve been thinking that I don’t like the place it’s parked, and that I should move it, or lend it to a friend with no car for a couple of days…but i didn’t! Hubby got back today, and got home with a letter that someone just left in the car’s screen, that he backed into the car while reversing from his garage!. I got enough signals, and chose not to hear them. So i’m learning my lesson the hard way this time; and you couldn’t be more opportunistic with your post!!
By the way, just this morning, I bought your new book 🙂 I was planning to buy it in a couple of months because I’m quite busy these days, but couldn’t resist it! I can’t tell you how much I love the way you write. It’s a long time since I don’t enjoy so much anyone’s writing (this goes also for your blog). I already read your foreword – Twice 🙂 You are fun, apart from the content, it’s fun to read you and do the experiments. Absolutely love you, thanks!!

  12. Love the new book! Just completed Experiment #1–the big inside joke I received came in the form of a public post from Elizabeth Gilbert entitled “your fears are boring”– answers the huge question of “should I follow my dreams?” Write On, sisterfriend! 😉

  13. Yay Pam!!!!!!!!! Congratulations!

  14. What is meant to be ALWAYS finds a way! As some of you might remember, on October 9, 2012 I was gifted with a surprise phone conversation with Psychic Medium John Holland. Invited by then Hay House online events coordinated, Munir, to record my testimonial about attending John Holland’s online seminar. After my recording, Muni said to hold on the line for someone to speak with me. I anticipated speaking with the legal department to give permission to use my recording. Instead it was John Holland himself graciously thanking me for my testimonial. He said I would be gifted to a bundle of his books, two weekend passes for 2013 & 2014 Hay House I Can Do It Conference, and opportunity to meet and greet John in person the weekend of Sept. 20 & 21, 2014 where he would be one of the speakers!
I was on Cloud 9! I enjoyed the 2013 conference, but I couldn’t wait to meet John in person. His books, seminars, oracle decks, web site and weekly radio show have been an inspiration to me.
They say when you make plans, God laughs! My favorite cousin became a Grandmother. I was invited to the Baptism of her grandson on Sunday, September 21st! John’s office confirmed that I would have the opportunity to meet him at the conference on September 20th. Then my Godson became a father inviting me to his son’s Baptism on September 20th! I attended both ceremonies, but missed the opportunity to meet John during the book signing session. I was at the Baptism in Hartsdale.
Today I went to the Baptism at Smithtown. The Baptism service ended at 2:30! On the road with wonderful Hoyt Driver, Carlos we made it to the Mid Town Tunnel at 3:30pm. John’s event was at 4:45pm. Plenty of time. Then 100,000 people decide to gather and March for Climate Control! Ending at the Jacob Javitz Center! Closing 11th avenue and 35th street. So there my patient driver and sat in traffic on 35th street until I made it to John’s event at 5:16!
Once inside, I was led by a kind officer to the balcony section, which really isn’t handicapped accessible. However, there against the wall was a folding chair! Perfect! I was able to see John at his event. I knew he was on his way to another 5 day event at Omega Institute. My best friend, Ann Evangelista, author of The Enchanted Forest: The Joshua Project, came to the balcony to help me. We were searching for a restroom when she shouted,” It’s John!” Hurrying to exit, he passed in front of me! My friend introduced me and he said. ” I guess it was just meant to be!” He asked about the Baptism and said he had a 2 1/2 hour drive ahead of him. I wished him luck. Then I got the gift I had been anticipating since October 9, 2012…a hug from John! Feeling truly blessed! Grateful to Muni, my Fairy Godfather, Melissa at Hay House, Meryl from John’s office, and to John Holland for his extreme kindness. But most of all grateful to Spirit who definitely arranged this meeting!
