The truth about human nature

“Once you identify a choice that your culture has made on your behalf, you are free to begin forging a new one.”—Philip Shepherd

My most important practice is non-resistance. Me and Elsa—letting it go. Over and over and over again.

Like today’s Course lesson advises, “Give up your tight control of what you see.”

Personally, I want to give up my tight control of what I see, what I think, what I believe.

I was pondering this common phrase today. “But that’s just human nature.”

It’s often used to explain away all sorts of less-desired behaviors, things like fear, jealousy, greed, anger. And it’s billed as inescapable, “just the way it is.”

But that doesn’t ring true for me. I would say 100 percent of these kinds of projected behaviors are anything BUT human nature. Our true essential nature is love, peace, acceptance and joy.

And anytime, we feel less than peaceful, less than innocent, less than “what a freakin’ awesome world this is,’ we are resisting something and projecting whatever we’re resisting onto a screen outside ourselves.

Another myth I’d hereby like to bust is the prevalent belief that it’s your job to figure everything out. When you rely on your precious mind to solve some issue that’s troubling you, it produces thoughts—lots and lots of thoughts.

The intellect, as great a tool as it is, relies on old files stored in the brain. It churns up stories revolving around the above myth—that others and their “human nature” are out to get you. And these thoughts, which are endless and self-reinforcing, only breed more thoughts.

So today, let’s all join Elsa, belt out a joyous “let it go.” And relax in the boundless peace that is our true nature.

  1. I love this post and how connected we are, Pam 🙂 It’s so clear that we all draw from the same source ♾️

My post on Insta today said: “The truth is not what you see; it is what you know”. So much in sync with your blog post! 💙

  3. This all sounds wonderful if you are not living in chronic physical pain. What should people like me do? I’ve tried all the “happy happy joy all is wonderful” beliefs and loving myself and holistic and medical methods. Also have practiced acceptance and of course read and still do all Pam’s books and many others. Meditation and tapping too. I could go on and on with it all. Oh I forgot about praying to everyone and all religious leaders and angels and loved passed ones. Sorry to complain but I just can’t take much more pain nor painful medical procedures. Also practicing a course in miracles everyday. I really need a miracle.

      1. Thank you for this Pam. I appreciate it. You are very kind.

    1. Good news Maryelle- Pain is weakness leaving the body! To help it on it’s way, have you tried meditation? You get what you focus on, so focus on the GOOD! Have a blessed and magical 2nd half of the year friend.

      1. Thank you so much for your caring reply Susie. Yes, I meditate and pray daily. This illness came upon me suddenly. I was so healthy and never ever thought I could be otherwise. One thing I have learned is that if one feels good physically, life is beautiful and nothing else really matters. Once I am better, I will never again take physical health for granted. Thank you again for making me feel not so alone and that you care. Have a wonderful day!!

  4. Brava Pam!!

I recently heard something similar from an energy worker: let go of the mind, don’t let it be in charge. Nothing as good as what Source can offer can keep us merrily sailing along!

  5. Thank you Pam for another brilliant and timely perspective. As a new Course student in the 90’s I recall Ken Wapnik quipping that the first 25 years are the hardest!🤣I have let much go since then but still wrestling Separation thought🤣 Many blessings💖

  6. Thank you Pam for the reminder, and encouragement, to ‘let it go’ and to ‘relax in the boundless peace that is our true nature.’ I say Amen to that. 👌🏼🦋🌺🥰

    1. I love all oof your work, Pam and have for years. Help, please! I am hooked in hypervigilant fear about what’s going on politically in the US and the very real ( seeming?) increased suffering for so many and have not been finding a way to experience “only love is real.” For instance, how would one have practiced this during Hitler’s reign? I would so appreciate any help, any breadcrumbs toward this. With such love to you and all who are here. Thank you! 💞

  7. Thanks so much for thus. So reassuring to hear you say things I’ve been wondering if might be truth. Love to you Pam. ❤️

  8. Dear dear Pam, thank You for this. ❤️‍🔥💖❤️‍🔥💝

Also, my Friend found and bought A glass hedgehog just a couple of days ago.

  9. I am always looking forward to your new posts! Your words make me so happy as they always resonate and remind us of what we are: infinite consciousness. Our true nature is indeed deep inner peace and ultimate joy. Ever since I have been a little kid, I have felt that everyone and everything is connected. A couple of years ago I came across Rupert Spira’s teachings on non-duality and everything makes sense. I believe, or better to say I know, the world is not what we see, it is the way we look. The love we feel for other people and the beauty we experience in the world is when the illusory separation dissapears. Thank you for today’s lesson and I am looking forward to tomorrows post! 😉 Let it goooooooooo. Let it goooooooooooo… With love from the Netherlands, Willo

  11. Love this, Pam! I think these ideas are sloshing around a lot right now. I just wrote a Substack piece on “worldview” – essentially what you are addressing here. Your writing reaches an ever expanding circle and we are so grateful for it!

  12. Instead of being Mister Worrywart I Am now back to what I really am. a ribbon of energy taking this kick-ass adventure in this roller coaster of a human shell. I am riding this roller coaster with both hands up in the air. thank you, thank you, thank you!
