It’s okay, sweetheart!

We are on a sacred journey that can often seem chaotic and frightening, but when understood from a more mystical, archetypal and transformational vantage point, our purpose and the Divine handiwork of this time becomes obvious.” –Carolyn Myss

I decided to pull out my two magic words today.

Some of you may remember them from previous posts. I probably even included them in one of my books.  I added the endearment “sweetheart” because it seems crucial to be really, really, really gentle with ourselves right now.

I’m sitting outside at my favorite coffee shop in Ajijic, Mexico. I hear birds singing, tree trimmers whistling and snippets of conversation from nearby tables.

I’m happy to report that the community that first drew me here nearly seven years ago continues to hold a vortex of peace, joy and faith even as emotions and fear swirl around the world.

As people of faith, we must refuse to let outside events control the narrative. We must remember, as someone said in the sangha yesterday, that we will always be the president of our own minds.

That’s why I considered headlining this post, “Lazos de amor.” But then thought the English translation, “only love is real” would speak to more of us.”

That sentiment, whether in English, Spanish, Arabic or any other language, is a universal truth. Only love is real. No matter what. No matter how it might appear to the naked eye.

Anything that doesn’t look like love is smoke and mirrors and it’s only temporary unless we decide to turn it into dogma. All fear can be dissolved with the power of love.

I’m here in Mexico on a sort of spiritual sabbatical to pull together the final pieces of my new book. My friend Jay suggested I announce here on the blog that it will debut in April, mostly because it creates a deadline for myself. We writers need these kinds of guard rails. Dates, deadlines are our friend.

I decided to self-publish this time around which is, in itself, a whole new adventure in creativity. I self-published two books when Taz was young. One of them (Jumpstart Your Metabolism) was eventually bought out by Simon & Schuster (now Atria) after I met a publisher in the green room of the New York talk show where I was demonstrating the book’s “energy cocktails.”

The other, Recycle this Book: And 72 1/2 Other Ways to Save “Yo Momma” Earth was published on recycled grocery bags with illustrations by a seven-year-old Taz. It came out for Earth Day in maybe 2000. The local paper even took our picture with Taz and me standing in our garbage can.

Because the publishing industry has changed so drastically, I decided it would be rather entrepreneurial to go the self-publishing route again.  But as I said, I need the deadline.

So folks, please hold me accountable. And please, please, please remember there is only love.

And please tell that president in your mind to have the very best weekend of your life.

#222 Forever!

  1. Thank you always for what you do. I love you for who you are. You do make a difference in my life even if at times I don’t seem to be hearing what I’m being taught. It’s my first year almost completing the course in miracles. I realize now I’m going to have to do it over and over and over again and I hope I have enough years left to do that. Whatever may be I will always be grateful to you.

    1. Just so you know, I do it over and over again, too. These principles aren’t difficult. There’s just so different than the narrative we’re taught coming in.

  2. I agree with this. After the election there was a shift of perspective that both my son and I experienced. We had been focused on the wrong things. We often gravitated toward the headlines that talked about horrible acts or events. And the more we focused on those things the more of them there were to witness. We were becoming distant from people because of this. We realized after the election, that aspect of ourselves needed to change, and that we needed connection now more than ever, both with the Universe and with others. And the results were immediate. We saw people who were doing good. We created connections. We felt more at peace. Before, because of our focus, we saw the ugly of humanity. Now, with a shifted focus we are seeing the good AND we are seeing it multiple. Which is to say, I’m not turning a blind eye to racism and those types of things, I’m befriending, connecting, and lifting up people who aren’t that so the dominate narrative becomes something more positive and loving.

  3. Thank you Pam placing our energy in love is beautiful and so needed. I very grateful for your messages. With love Lynnie

  4. Thank you, Pam. I’m still feeling very sad and I’m having a hard time focusing on the good things. I will get there eventually, I guess I just need some more time to process.
    Donna ❤️

    1. It’s okay to feel sad. That’s the beauty of the magic words. We can accept and welcome it all. And there’s nowhere you have to get. You’re already here.

  5. I needed this!

Wednesday morning, the logical side of my brain said: “don’t panic; everything is ok!” The intrusive, illogical side heard the lyrics to radio active: “I’m waking up to ash and dust, I wipe my brow and sweat my rust!” Thankfully, the good side prevailed. This is only temporary and LOVE CONQUERS ALL!

  6. Pam, I am sooo excited for your new book debut in April. That is so cool. May the words flow to you with ease and clarity, and may you meet your deadline with awesome amazingness.

And may everyone turn off the main stream news!!! They just love to fear monger. We are love and everything in life has a bright side.

  7. I finally turned off the news, which helped. As I believe it’s important to be involved in humanitarian activism, women’s rights, environmental issues, gun reform, etc. I find it difficult not to be concerned about what is happening. So much hate & violence coming from the leader of our country. How do I reconcile or prepare for what his agenda is planning? I get the whole “staying positive, your thoughts.. But, I can’t put my head in the sand and not be responsible for my loved ones well being. I care for a husband with cancer and a brother with Down syndrome & Alzheimer’s disease. If we lose our healthcare, then what? I can’t just think happy thoughts and if will be ok.
I’ve read all the books & usually I can be in the right mindset. But, now?? Advice? Thank you

    1. I’m not much of an advice giver. But I will share a question I ask a lot when I notice I’m worrying about something. Is it happening now? If it’s not, I try to turn my attention back to the present–the bird song, the ceiling fan, the blue sky, all realities that are happening now. I also find I’m more effective in dealing with present moment realities when I’m not obsessing.

    2. So sorry about your situation and zi can completely understand how you feel, I have my own situation as a senior on SS raising my grandson and his alcoholic mother living with us as well. I can’t just think about roses and say all that is real is love when the reality zi live in is not those things. I hear ya and i love Pam but this is not peace or love.

  8. IF YOU BUY INTO THE NONSENSE, that which is NOT TRUTH… YOU ARE JUST FUELING the FIRE, that WILL CONSUME YOU.

REMEMBER: WHAT YOU FOCUS ON… MANIFESTS & MULTIPLIES AFTER ITS KIND, NO MATTER WHAT!

BE STILL and KNOW, I AM [IS] GOD, THE CREATOR ~ I AM!

  9. Sí, está bien, cariño… AND, with a new Pam Grout book on its way early next year, now it’s even better. Cool beans!

And, speaking of beans, I’m pretty sure I know your favorite coffee shop in Ajijic because you mentioned it in a previous blog post. Imagine my surprise when I learned that my Lakeside realtor – who recently sold me my very own summer place there – is also the owner of that coffee shop… and was born in Kansas City, to boot! Life is wild sometimes, you know?

I see happy writing days ahead for you, dear Pam!

  10. There’s so much joy in accepting what is!
Especially as I learn more and more that the Truth is under everything. It’s all going my way, and I can’t see the bigger picture so all I can do is know that everything is working out perfectly❤.
Thank you for being part of it with me!

Ease, joy, delight and serendipity for you and your book over the next few months❤!

    Only Love 💜❤💕

  11. Perfect way to start the weekend. Feeling the love and sending it back twofold Pam. Oh, and looking forward greatly to your new book. You rock! 😁❤️

  12. I was SO hoping we would hear your comforting words of wisdom this week! Thank you for reminding us to focus on love. What we look for is what we will see! It’s okay, it’s okay, it’s okay 🙂

  13. Perfect timing for posting this message Pam. I love the idea that each of us will always be the President of our own minds. That’s excellent. And to be reminded that everything, no matter what, no matter how ‘bad’ it looks, is ok. Everything. It’s so easy to forget this and to get caught up in the negatives, the fears, and the catastrophising, whether it’s about the President of the USA or any of the myriad of dramas we might be facing wherever we live. So I’m grateful for your reminder to say “it’s ok sweetheart” about anything at all that’s going, no matter what my thinking about it may be. Bless it and let it go. And breathe. Yes.
Have a wonderful weekend yourself dear Pam in that beautiful place of birdsong and peace. May we all remember to notice the birdsong wherever we are in our world.

  14. Thank you for starting my day with such a relatable message! Can we help you as well? How about preselling your next book to all your devoted fans? What better nudge/incentive/goal than accountability to your future investors?
I want to jump into your pool of possibilities! You are so blessed and thanks to you, so are we.

  15. Dear Pam
Love is all that is real , all else is an illusion. I have told myself this for the last 3 decades. But i am having a pity party since nov 5th. I am giving myself a few more days to grieve. No more news, only funny movies, walks in nature, hugging my grandchildren. Fear may keep rushing in but I am confident in my trained ability to switch gears. Time to get back to basics. Daily ACIM via Pams version and the original.
I pre order your book for April.
I look forward to your thoughts
    Sincerely

  19. Dear pam, when will your book come to Germany??? I’ve been your fan for what feels like two big bang sequences. No one inspires me as much as the You.
