In praise of irrationality

“No matter how upside down it all may appear, we have no fear, because we know this secret: all of creation is conspiring to shower us with blessings,”—Rob Brezsny

Us in a former life!

I just ordered a replacement AC adapter for my laptop (because mine malfunctioned after I accidentally dropped it), so I’m going to try to write this post before I run out of power. Fingers crossed!

I’m writing today in praise of irrationality. In celebration of things we can’t see, in things we can’t understand with our brains.

These mysteries (like disembodied voices telling me how deeply I am loved, how innocent i am and always have been) are my most treasured gifts.

Reason, logic, data and evidence certainly have their place. They’ve advanced society in countless ways. But for now, I’m happy putting my faith in the imagining of a new reality, in advancing a sweeter, kinder truth.

And while I can’t begin to empirically explain this voice to which I’ve surrendered my life, I just know I feel lighter, more compassionate and better able to trust in a world where life itself thrives. And anybody who tells me differently, I’ve noticed, has a hidden agenda that always has something to do with lack and fear and separation.

I’ve also noticed that whatever I pay most attention to becomes my higher power. If I pay attention to rational, measurable things, I’m stuck with a very limited point of view. But when I pay attention to creativity and possibility and beauty, those things quickly take over my life.

So call me irrational, ridiculous, a wearer of rose-colored glasses and I’ll just say, “Thank you. Thank you for noticing.”

  1. I’m liking what the Writer is providing in the two-way! Lots of excellent stuff! Very rose-colored glasses, and I’m going to keep them on.

  2. I have never felt more understood – I fully believe this concept of seeing the good and beauty everywhere and actually opened my business on 2/22/22, this is so empowering to read, thank you

  3. Hi Pam, reader of your books and believer of your message….even if I forget to practice sometimes!
I am going to ask you an Irrational Question – while reading your Post I went back & forth a hundred times about asking but here goes.
My niece (more like my daughter-nuff said!) was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic cancer over a month ago and now on chemo. She has 2 daughters age 3 and 18 months. She is overwhelmed and so afraid.
We need success stories of beating it to help her maintain courage and focus while we, Team Natalie, search for the path to her being one of the 10+% who survive. If you or anyone you know is aware of a Success Story for Pancreatic Cancer we would be incredibly Grateful!!
Why is this question Irrational? – this isn’t the place for this kind of question or help. Why is it Rational? Because of you, Pam. You are one of The Dude’s greatest standard bearers and I think “he” wanted me to ask you, crazy as that sounds.
Please keep doing what you do – it makes such a holy difference in this crazy world!

  4. Thank you for noticing! My rose colored glasses raise to yours 🙂 Here’s to creativity, positivity, beauty, and absolute JOY! Glad you had enough power to post this!

  5. Thank you thank you for this!
I too am participating in “the experiment” and loving it. My invocation this morning was all about lightening up. And that many times the heaviness I’m feeling isn’t even mine. It was a calling to start the day with a buoyant energy that can’t help but keep others afloat too. ❤️

  6. I find myself anticipating your next email so I can write back to share my experiences and thoughts!
THANK YOU for sharing this opportunity to tap in to the “ woo-woo”
I do think I will stick with this for quite some time. I’m amazed at the changes in just under 3 weeks.
Still waiting on a cutesy name lol but I received a cloak of worthiness and the experience was so damn vivid and real, (while others may not believe) I look forward to what else may lay in store for me!! Love and Blessings Pam!

  7. You are always immersed in a field of unconditional Love. You are forever Loved. It only makes sense that you are constantly reminded. I will remind you when I see you next at the farmer;s market.

  8. These wise words will be my mantra (until your next email!): “If I pay attention to rational, measurable things, I’m stuck with a very limited point of view. But when I pay attention to creativity and possibility and beauty, those things quickly take over my life.”
Thank you Sweet Little Pammy Sue!! 🙂

  9. What a BEAUTIFUL post! I love that graphic depiction of us as LIGHT! … just the way I imagine it IS!

Loving the experiment, finding amazing segments of my days coming into unexpected fruitfulness through having more energy to participate, or more TIME, or unexpected great IDEAS arising and rescuing! Gratitude abounds!

    Love, love, love!

  10. I just read this little text in a book about laying on of hands:

“Never say of a thing, I lost it, but I gave it back.

Your child died, it was given back. Your wife died, she was given back.

Your land was taken from you, now this too has only been given back.

But it was taken from you as a villain, but what does it matter to you who demanded it from you again who gave it to you?

As long as he leaves it to you, but treat it as someone else’s good and the travelers the inn.”

    1. Yes, my beloved Taz is now my ancestor, present everywhere!!! She will always be my answer and my question!!!! My love has only deepened.

  11. Oh, YES!!!!!!! A Weaver of Rose-colored Glasses 🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓. You GO, Girl!!!!! Thank you for ALL you do to uplift us and entertain us and Love us!!!!!!

  12. I am proud to be a Rainbow-Colored-Glasses-wearing-Pollyanna, who leans toward finding the silver linings!
Well, way more often than not!
I was fortunate to be raised by Beverly (who proudly wore rose colored glasses) and Myles (who had little plaques on his desks at home and at the office that said “A positive attitude will help solve problems.”, and read Norman Vincent Peale and Dale Carnegie, and Think and Grow Rich).
Back when my daughter was a surly teenager, she was not a fan of this shiny quality of mine.
She would say that I sh*t rainbows! Not meant as a compliment, but I still took it as one.
What can I say? I am my parents’ child!

    1. Woohoo to being so filled with light that you pass rainbow poop! 😁🌈 💩🌈☀️😄 Thanks for making my day Pamela Joy! I’m still grinning from ear to ear! 😁

  13. Woohoo!! Yes!! That last sentence made me laugh out loud with joy! Thank you for permission to delight in my irrationality, and to celebrate seeing with rose coloured glasses! Next time someone tells me I’m too idealistic or live in denial of reality I’m going to say “thank you for noticing!” 😁 And maybe I’ll add “it’s the best place to live!” 😄 Yeeehaaaaah! 🥳💃🦋

  14. You are awesome. This rocks. My brain is happier because of you. My heart feels and works better after I hear from you… Thank you for the Beauty and the Blazing Bright North Star. ❤️

  15. Been using my Thank & Grow Rich (which I had next to my bed but hadn’t noticed until last week) as my inspiration for my 30-Day Challenge morning journaling. Whatever page I open to is my message. Today (Day 15), to reinforce my trust, spirit had me writing Peter Frampton lyrics – “I’m in you, you’re in me…’cause you gave me the love, the love that I never had.” Cool tune. Thanks Pam and friends!!!

  16. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve written one of your quotes into my journal… and the last one of this blog in particular is a keeper because I’ve been called irrational, unrealistic, uber-positive, head-in-the-sand crazy, etc. due to my optimistic view and love of life – so now I have a perfect response – “thank you. thank you for noticing.” BOOM! You are the best!

  17. I just love you Pam ❣️
Thank you for being here and being authentic YOU to the core.
I’m just gonna squish you, squeeze you and pop you this us how much i love you 😘

  18. That is why I read and reread your books to be more aware that there is a hidden reality and that by living with it or imagining it you will enter a world called parallel or called a world that you are there but we do not see it, finally we are happy living like this. A big hug and many blessings.
