“Perception selects, and makes the world you see.”–Course in Miracles146624

Who in their right mind would walk into a restaurant, take a look at the menu and order the dish they least desire?

Likewise, who would go shopping at Nordstrom’s and opt to carry the rack’s ugliest outfit up to the sales counter?

Yet, that’s what most of us do in our thinking, in our conversations. We focus on things we don’t want to happen. We focus on the fear, on the negative, on the lack.

And those decisions have a much bigger impact on your life than one ugly dress or a dish you can’t stand. You literally draw out from the universe whatever you focus upon. In other words, you get what you order. It’s an unalterable law.

At every moment, we make the choice where we focus our energy. Always. One hundred percent of the time.

I’m not denying that our minds habitually return to the worn-out groove of thoughts we’ve had in the past and that it takes some re-training to start a new habit of focusing only on what we want, but we have the capacity to do it.

I hope you’ll join me in focusing only on new possibilities, on love, on what our world could become.

And to help with that, here’s a fun story that popped into my inbox this week:

“Hi, Pam! I’m a huge fan of your books, “E-Squared” and “E-Cubed” and “Thank and Grow Rich”. I’ve done small manifestations before, (like getting into a sold-out concert in a small venue when I was #12 on the waiting list! That happened on the evening of the day I’d finished reading “E-Squared”!))

“Here is a manifestation I had happen much more quickly than I’d ever expected. This was just under 4 days… I live in the Greater Seattle area. I am a 64-year old, white, male, saxophone player (mostly retired). But I still get wistful and think about how I’d like to have a better horn; make some new friends in other parts of the world to chat about saxophone stuff via Facebook messaging, or e-mail… Well, I had the thought, “It would be keen to get to know an Australian sax player as I am fascinated by Australia and I’d love to know more about their jazz and music experiences there. I do know they teach jazz in Australian music academies…” Then I forgot about it.

“The other day I was on You Tube watching the famous University of North Texas One O’clock Jazz Band, one of the best in the world… The tenor sax player stood up to take a beautiful solo. I thought, “I wonder if he’s on Facebook?” I looked him up there, and he was…But all of his basic information was blocked.

“I sent him a message telling how much I liked his playing and asked about his horn… and I put in a friend request.

“The next day I find that he had, indeed, accepted my friend request and sent me a lovely note thanking me for my comments, and telling me about his instrument. Now, all of his Facebook information was open to me and I saw that he was not from Texas as I’d assumed, but from Canberra, Australia! He is a freelance player and a teacher at a college in another Australian city. We’ve had some great correspondence since! Super nice fellow! I told him I hope to visit Australia when I retire in a few years and we can meet and do some jamming!

“I’d simply had the thought I wanted to meet an Australian sax man, and the most interesting series of events followed to complete my manifestation!

“Manifestation truly works if you have a little faith… and even (sometimes) if you forget about it!”

  1. Just a good reminder I needed today.

Thank you sooooo much for yesterday. It was as though you smudged our lives with your beautiful friendship. C thinks you are such a hoot and adores you!

I am off to do some positive mental focusing….I want to stay on track and build that thinking muscle.

  2. What a great story from the saxophone player. Thank you for sharing it. I never knew that the 1 O’clock Lab Band is one of the best in the world. North Texas Sta. Univ. was where I went in the 70’s. I used to listen to them at the Student Union Bldg. Was always a wonderful treat.

    1. Wow, The Universe works again, just bringing you into the equation of knowing exactly who this gentlemen saxophone player was referring to. There are no coincidences in this life.

  3. Pam—some members of my women’s group (meeting each month to support each other for over 30 years) meet by teleconference and share our experiences of doing the experiments from your books. First we did E2 and we all just loved it and just this week started E3 and are meeting each Wednesday night. So excited to have your work in front of me to be thinking about each day. My biggest problem over the years and I have been thinking your way for my entire life is reminded myself that I am in charge (by my thoughts) of my world. Thanks for helping me and my friends with this endeavor. Dale Adler
PS my song for #1 is “what a feeling” from Flash dance

  4. I copied and saved this phrase. ” You literally draw out from the universe whatever you focus upon. In other words, you get what you order. It’s an unalterable law.” I haven’t ordered anything lately and I’m awash in uncertainty about where I’m going at this late stage of life but filled with gratitude for how generous life has been to me. I pretty much have everything I’ve asked for but my dreams have always been small. Dare I dream larger? Going to give it a shot.

    1. Dream big, my friend. Adventure awaits! And you get to define ‘adventure’ to match your taste. How cool is that!

  5. You get what you think about weather you want it or not !!! Thanks Pam I love your work please keep it up !!!!

  6. Thank you, Pam! Just the reminder I needed today. I fell back into the “worn out groove” habit yesterday… a heavy, sinking and stinking feeling grew, which was challenging to shake off. I then remembered a meditation on “Cosmic Ordering” which I’d found on my online library catalog a few days ago. I downloaded and listened to it and was guided to ask for my desire, so I set an intention to be uplifted and that my focus be on love, abundance, joy, and positivity…all things good. I did the meditation again this morning and set the same intention. And then, I receive and read your positively uplifting blog which serves to remind me of the focus of my request and how the Divine is guiding me fulfill it. Just amazing!!

What’s also amazing is that I too attended the University of North Texas back in the mid-70’s and used to listen to the the Jazz Band(s) at the Student Union Building!! Go Mean Green!!

Hugs & thanks to you, Pam Grout, for continued inspiration!!

  7. Dearest Pam
I want to tell you a funny thing that happened me with Esquared experiment 1 (i am stuck in number 2since 15 days now )
    but it is really funny
first a prolog I read thank and grow reach on kindle and loved you writing style puts me in a good mood I like reading you when I am still in bed sipping my cappuccino(I am Italian cannot live without cappuccinos)
well then I downloaded e squared and in experiment 1 (i guess ) you say to decide what you’re going to manifest within 48 hrs and as I live in Rome I chose the weirdest thing I could choose: pink flamingos…
kept on waiting to see them and no show (of course) I gave up so telling myself it is not true stop it ect etc but nevertheless I was always vigil or at least more focused in the present and all of a sudden a Sunday night I was on the internet looking for tableware (love porcelain) and guess what appeared ?
    http://www.lourota.com/collections/flamingo

I laughed so much even more than your imagination can imagine soo funny good things happen when least expected
btw I am the kind of person that always orders the wrong plate from a restaurant menu

    I love your insights
    thank you
    blessings

  8. Thank you so much Pam. As I tend to repeatedly go back down the worn path of anxiety, reading your blog gets me right back on the path of positive thinking, optimism and faith in the universe. Just what I needed to read this morning as I prepare for my day. Love you!

  9. Dear Pam,
I love your books and I want to ask you when ‘Thank and Grow Rich’ will be published in Bulgarian language? I can’t waiting to read it…
    And one more.
There is a great book called ‘The little book of Hygge- the Danish way to live well’ by Meik Wiking. I think you’ll like it.
