This is a blog post for anyone who has ever picked up a woman’s magazine to find out what their body can be expected to do when they’re 30 or 40 or 50. With the help of “medical experts,” these magazines will tell you when your metabolism is expected to decrease, when your skin is expected to lose moisture and when your hair is expected to thin.
Talk about creating an affirmation!
This blog post is for those looking for a different kind of affirmation. The kind that says, “Aging is nothing but a story, a long-time belief and expectation that has no foundation except the weight we give it.”
Dr. Christiane Northrup has a great new book out about this very topic. It’s called, “Goddesses Never Age.”
I had one such goddess in last weekend’s workshop. Although Northrup suggests we not reveal our age (A better question, she says when people ask, is “What do you really want to know?), this particular goddess, who was there with her two daughters, told us she was 80. We nearly fell out of our seats. She was every bit as spry of mind and body as the rest of us.
During the workshop, we picked a slip out of a basket of something we would manifest in the next few days. Jane picked “a pink car.”
Yesterday, she sent me this email along with the picture at the top of this post:
“Not one. (pink car) But two! I’m a believer.”
And to conclude my argument that, age is only relevant when it comes to cheese and wine, here’s a beautiful video of nearly 90-year-old Dick Van Dyke who can still dance like he did with Mary Poppins.

Once again, I’ve learned something new from reading your posts (a better question is, what do you really want to know and age is only relevant with wine and cheese) and you’ve affirmed several of my other beliefs…age is just a number and ignore the status quo if it doesn’t feel right. I agree with everything you say. By the way, the last couple of posts didn’t seem to have a link for the promised video. It’s just that I would love to have watched both of them
In this video, Dick Van Dyke, at almost 90 looks way younger than half the guys who contact me on dating sites claiming to be under 60. Just goes to show that if we put our minds to it, we can stay young as long as we’re here. Thank you Pam and Christiane!
Hi Pam. Why, if it all just depends on our mind, should we care about cheese and wine either? And why, if age is just a number shouldn’t we reveal it? Doesn’t it mean there’s some kind of fear behind it?

That aside, thank you!! – for all of it (you know what I mean). I’m so enamored with E2 & E3, and now enjoying your posts too. As soon as I started into my copies of the E-ase I sent both books to 3 friends. It’s remarkable how UNIQUE the energy of your words are to each individual.
My 60th birthday is June 29, having a little backyard party with my family. I wanted to give each a gift. What would be the thing that I always try to give to folks in every encounter? Whether or not accompanied by a tangible gift? Happiness, Joy, Love, Laughter, Smiles, Gentleness, Harmony… So I ordered from my local book shop 9 copies each of E2 & E3 – I’m Soooo…. Smilin’ to give each in my family their very own copies! (several households will have 2 sets)They expect the unconventional from me (and most of the time enjoy it).
In my Innocent Nature (unjaded – basically how I operate), always trying to ‘help’ people be happy, relieved of stresses, lighten up the energies, smooth-out the ju-ju – yes compassion, but also the service to myself so we can all come out and play together (I weary of people carrying around the ball & chain of pain & problems). The Image that expresses my simultaneous hope and frustration with folks is from the fairytale: “The Emperor and His New Suit of Clothes”. I’m the scruffy kid on the side of the road: “But He’s Naked!!” But…but… but – please, everyone stop commiserating for a sec and Smile with me! It’s pretty easy, obvious to spot those silver linings… Your books give me a tool, a thing I can give to others to lighten my load a bit – so I don’t always have to be the one to point out those silver linings on loved-ones’ clouds – they can do it for themselves.
I’m describing this stuff to you as a High Five to my favorite line in your books, E3, page 10: “I want to stamp my foot and say, ‘Stop that!’ But instead I’ve written this book.”
Words in an email barely scratch the surface of my gratitude for you writing these books. Being able to give them to people… the image that arises is I’ve been a bird caught in and out of an oil spill, a huge white bird with big white wings… and I can preen n’ clean myself pretty good, but always going back to that darned oil spill to help/encourage others. And all I’ve ever wanted is that we can all fly TOGETHER! Whoa… this brings tears… so thanks, Pam.
