As natural as your next breath

“You do not ask too much of life, but far too little.”—A Course in Miracles

When I was in junior high, listening to the radio with friends, we played a silly game. We’d declare that the next song, whatever it might be, was a message from our current crush.

We took turns and, while said crush most likely had no idea we even existed, we were convinced “the next song” was an accurate portrayal of our love affair.

We waited with much anticipation. What was our “true love” about to reveal? Would it be Barry White’s “You’re the First, the Last, My Everything? Would it be “Love will Keep us Together” by Captain and Tennille? Or, alas, would it be “Tears of a Clown?”

Either way, we listened with our whole being.

That’s how I feel about listening to my inner guidance, my cosmic concierge. I get excited, eager to learn what it is about to reveal. But unlike songs on a radio dial, this frequency is the real deal–a true communion with my inner being.

If I go in with an open mind, not having a clue what “song” will play next, I get better, clearer answers. It’s hard, after all, to talk over someone’s expectations and opinions. I like to go in with a blank slate of joyful anticipation and a true desire for accurate guidance.

I also want to mention a couple more things about “clear, unmistakable guidance,” one of my four daily intentions.

Everyone has a connection to their inner being, absolutely everyone. It’s not just Joan of Arc and Moses who get burning bushes. This robust channel of connection was established in our creation. It’s not like athletic talent where some people have it and others don’t.

It’s just that most of us have learned to ignore it. We’ve habituated to listening to the chattering voice in our head. We’re the ones who separated ourselves from this voice of wisdom.

Also want to note that you don’t have to prove anything to get guidance. Or do it in any particular way. It’s a simple reawakening to a capacity you ALREADY HAVE. It’s not like learning to play the mandolin or mastering a Simone Biles-style double back layout.

Dudes, we already know how to do this. It’s natural. Like taking a breath.

Have a gorgeous week! #222 Forever!

    The unequivocal call to love

“I began to see myself as God saw me, which was a very different picture than the one I had of myself. It produced in me a vibrant feeling, as though a strong current of life had suddenly been poured into me.”—Frank Buchman

So people are starting to ask. What is it exactly you’re doing to connect to this Voice that is bringing you so much pleasure?

It’s pretty simple and I’ll definitely fill you all in. In fact, if anybody here wants to participate in a 30-day experiment, by all means let me know.

The bottom line is I’m listening to a Voice that’s a whole lot smarter than I am. I sorta keep this practice on the downlow, because well, my culture regards listening to a disembodied voice as batsh*t crazy.

All I can say, to paraphrase the song, “If loving you is wrong, I don’t want to be right? is I’m blissfully okay with that title.

When you really think about it, we listen to voices ALL of the time. The soundtrack we normally subscribe to comes from our brain and tells us how scary life is and how unworthy we are. And nobody blinks an eye when you listen to that voice’s monologue.

What I’m listening to is a whole different message. A message that’s restoring my faith in myself and in the world and in what the future might entail.

The guidance I’m getting is STOP! Quit seeking. It’s all right here.

I’ll be speaking to someone next week who has been practicing what I’m practicing for some 30-40 years.  And, after that, I will definitely “share my toys.”

Until then, my favorite online soul mates, I see you having the very best weekend of your life.

In love, in gratitude, in the peace that reigns within.

    The gravitational pull of joy

“We cease using the world to serve our happiness and instead we use our happiness to serve the world.”–Rupert Spira

Happy Wednesday, you beautiful beings of light. I just returned from a joyous week of living in the woods, walking daily with my sister and tuning into nature. And, yes, I continued to strengthen “the connection” each and every morning.

Although technically my process is called “writing,” it’s more like I’ve agreed to participate in the emergence of this as yet-to-be named project. And I’m really, really enjoying it which means it’s the right thing for me to do.

We all have this inner guidance system. And despite what we’ve been told, it’s easy to recognize. Think goosebumps! Excitement! Think “this is really fun!”

Of course, there are days where it doesn’t flow. But once you’ve recognized the buzz, felt the shivers, you know it’s worth hanging out until it begins to flow again. It just feels right.

Someone asked in the comments how one establishes this connection so, while there is no one-size-fits all prescription, I’ll happily share what I’m doing.

I go to my journal first thing. It’s my number one priority. I ask Infinite Intelligence, the Universe, the F.P. (there must be a hundred synonyms) to please spill the tea.

“T,” of course, stands for truth and I request that this marvelous mystery (yet another name) dish up all the juicy universal gossip.  In other words, what exactly do I need to know?

It’s almost freaky how wise and loving and apropos the guidance is.

And that’s the other thing. I absolutely have to lay aside all skepticism and doubt. I have to ignore the fact that “normal people” don’t expect to actually hear from God — although they’re really good at telling “the big guy” what they think he should do for them.

Because I’m so cognizant of how little I know, I’m thrilled to consult the higher source that has a much grander, more-encompassing viewpoint.

Over and over again, I keep getting variations of this message: love, happiness and peace is our true nature. We can access it any time. For me, I find it in the pages of my journal.

Love you all to the first quarter phase of the moon (today’s phase, I checked) and back!

Are you terrorizing yourself with your thoughts about food?

“We are all love just looking for a place to happen.”—Esther Hicks

I leave for Switzerland in about two hours. I’m giving a workshop in Bern and then I’m off to Norway for a travel assignment. Among other things, I’ll be sleeping in a snow hotel (just one night), enjoying a Viking dinner and viewing (knock on wood) the Northern Lights.

But I simply have to share this amazing blog post I got from a friend yesterday. Do yourself a favor and read it yourself (it can be accessed here), but to summarize, my friend Linda, like most of us, had picked up a lot of “rules” about how and what to eat. You know the feeling. Guilt if you eat too much sugar. Confusion over whether you’re getting the right amount of carbs. Shame if you went off the damned diet you vowed to begin January (or February or March) 1.

Starting Christmas, Linda was having trouble with her eyes. She tried everything and finally decided to surrender and ask the bigger thing for help. Almost immediately, a voice, very clearly, said the following: “You have terrorized yourself with your thoughts about your body and food, declaring that food is MORE powerful than your thoughts. It is exactly the opposite… but as with all things, your thoughts have “made it so.” Your body obediently overreacts to many foods now. And you hold the fear of that all the time. Are you ready for an undoing?”

Being no dummy, she said, “YES! Please undo this for me.” She gave the fear to God, the F.P., the Divine Buzz, the thing that has so many synonyms, none of which begin to do it justice.

I’m sure you can guess what happened. But again, go here and read her story.

The other thing I want to share is that the word “desire” comes from a French word that means “of the Father.” So if you, like most of us in Worldview 1.0, feel at all guilty for wanting stuff, it’s time to let that go. It’s time to feel innocent about your desires and to know that your intentions and dreams are actually God’s way of expanding itself. Yep, your desires are holy.

With that being said, I want to extend the deadline for the E-Cubed Selfie Challenge. I know I said it was yesterday, but because I’m about to fly across the ocean, I won’t be passing out prizes until I return. So post those selfies (a picture of you with your HIGHEST desire) to my Facebook page and get entered to win tickets to all four of this year’s North American “I Can Do it” conferences.

They’re going to be life-changing. And as I’ve said, every single person wins because once you make a new vision for yourself, the universe begins to conspire to bring it to fruition.

I’ll probably check in with ya’ll when I’m in Europe, but, either way, have a stupendous couple of weeks.

“The sidewalks are littered with postcards from God.”—Walt Whitman

“We’re surrounded by things we cannot see.”–Louie Schwartzberg

An old boyfriend of mine, a rational, left-brain advertising man, was sitting at his office desk one Tuesday when he suddenly got up, jumped in his car and drove home. This never happened. He had trouble leaving work at day’s end.

He pulled into his driveway at the unheard of hour of two in the afternoon…just in time to thwart a thief making off with his new TV.

This was a guy who wouldn’t dream of uttering words like God or grace or guidance. As I recall, his favorite description of me was “way-too woo-woo.” Yet, even though he’d never before left his office in the middle of the afternoon, he somehow picked up a signal to stop work immediately, to drive home now.

In E-Cubed, my new book, I talk a lot about signs, about the fact the universe constantly leaves bread crumbs, even sends up roadside flares when we’re not paying attention.

Last weekend, I was in Sydney at the Australia Writer’s Weekend with Reid Tracy, president of Hay House, and Leon Nacson, president of Hay House Australia.

Leon told a funny story about his unlikely entry into the world of spirituality. Not that you can ever NOT be touched by the Divine. But a lot of us pretend not to notice. As for Leon, he was busy booking rock shows and running night clubs.

One day, while watching his favorite footy team, his stomach started rumbling. Eager to get back to the game, he reached into his cabinet and grabbed what he thought was Maalox. After downing nearly the entire bottle and noticing it tasted a bit weird, he took a closer look. It was calamine lotion and his stomach, he was aggrieved to admit, was now coated with 10 ounces of anti-itch meds.

He tried everything over the next few months to get rid of this nasty stomach coating, even agreeing to accompany his P.A. (personal assistant) to an after-work body cleanse that she had enlisted in her never-ending quest to drop LB’s.

To make a long story longer, the P.A. ditched the body cleanse, but Leon, who was desperate, attended and was introduced to the incredible world of mind, body, spirit, a field he had no idea even existed. He went on to write a book about dream interpretation, to meet and eventually promote Deepak Chopra (although when Deepak first called about coming Down Under, Leon thought he was saying Six Pack Chocolate, which he still calls him today) and, of course, to eventually join forces with Hay House.

The point I’m trying to make is we are all being guided, all being given signs, all the time.

Once we surrender, let go of the struggle and let the universe take the lead, everything starts to fall into place.
