Do something remarkable today. An assignment

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was participating in a Laddership Pod with 100-some people from 17 countries. One of the participants has been standing at a busy intersection in her hometown with a sign. Nothing political. Nothing controversial. It simply says “Choose Love.” She has been holding this sign every Wednesday for two years.

This might sound like a simple thing, but the ripples from this one tiny action are immense. Articles have been written, minds have been widened. Who knows? Maybe someone saw the sign and decided against some mean and ugly thing they were secretly plotting.

The thing is we can’t know how our actions might positively benefit someone we don’t even know.

This week, another one of the participants from our pod lost her precious mother. As a tribute, many in our pod decided to follow Ruth’s lead and hold up our own “Choose Love” sign, in many countries around the world. These signs will be turned into a collage and sent to our friend in honor of her mother.

At the top of this post is the one I made yesterday (and held from 5 to 6). As you can see, I even roped in a few local friends to help in my gleeful scheme.

Yesterday was two years since Taz had her completely unexpected aneurysm. I could very easily have set around moping. I’ve certainly done my fair share of that. But instead, I did the very thing Taz would have done—I created something fun and spread a little joy.

I didn’t spend any money (well, a few bucks for the poster board), didn’t feel sorry for myself. I just got out there and put some merriment out into the world.

So here’s the assignment. Quit fretting about the coronavirus or the election or any other worry that currently lives rent-free in your head. Instead, make a sign. What would you like to broadcast to the world?

Scientists at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute recently published a paper that says it takes but 10 percent of a population to create a tipping point. A very small number of impassioned people really COULD turn this ship around.

So make your sign, snap a photo, post it here on the blog and if you REALLY want to make merry, be brave and take it out to the streets. It could just change your life. #222 Forever!
