“A life of peace, contentment and happiness divests itself of everything it does not want.”—Napoleon Hill
Right now, right where you are, magical things are happening. Angels, guides, your ancestors, a whole chorus of invisible beings are with you as you’re reading this.
The only question is, “Are you going to drop your story?” The story that says you’re all alone. The story that says there’s never enough, that life is hard, that nobody really loves you.
From a marketing standpoint I probably shouldn’t say this, but the words in my books aren’t really all that important. The only thing that really matters is letting go of all your crazy notions about scarcity and lack. Surrendering to the magic that surrounds you.
At any time—this moment, next year, three lifetimes from now–you can dive into the Divine Flow.
“Everything you need is deep within you. Upon your request, upon your insistence, upon your need and stating that need, stating your intention, it will arise.”—Michele Longo-O’Donnell
Like everyone else on the planet, I learned ages ago that opportunities for pain and suffering are always going to be available and that if I was going to live with intention, it’s best to steer clear.
I’d have never become the author of 17 books, a reporter for People magazine and a world traveler if I’d accepted the onslaught of “negative invitations.”
“That’s not possible,” naysayers always insisted on telling me. “It’s hard to write a book. Even harder to sell it. You’re an unknown from Kansas. You got B’s in your journalism classes, for God’s sake.”
“Talk to the hand,” I’d always say to those voices. “That may be your way of seeing things, but I choose a different reality, a higher path.”
But in 2008, after three years of ever-increasing income, even being in a position to turn down a fourth project for National Geographic, I took the ego’s bait.
By then, a constant stream of bad news dominated the headlines. My profession, journalism and book publishing, was among the hardest hit by the global downturn. Publishers were cutting back their lines, lowering their advances. Many of my colleagues in the newspaper business were suddenly without work.
Again, I normally don’t listen to such nonsense. I much prefer a spiritual reality that proclaims abundance no matter what the circumstances. But by 2009, after little by little letting the dire news seep in, I plucked the aforementioned recession invitation out of the trash. I decided to take just a peek.
The party was in full swing. My agent was repeating the “nothing’s selling” mantra over by the punch bowl. Regular clients were on the corner sofas, moaning about the economy and their need to buy less.
Before I knew what happened, I bunny hopped right into the middle of the celebration. I began singing the “ain’t it awful” blues along with the party’s deejay. I told anybody who’d listen about my hard times.
Before long, I convinced everyone I know that my career as an independent author was over. I even fooled them into believing that, after all these years on my own, I was old, washed up and as yesterday as the History Channel.
I actually reveled in the sympathy.
Then one day, I got out my beat-up copy of Think and Grow Rich. As I read Napoleon Hill’s words about “thoughts being things,” I suddenly got it.
Look how powerful my thoughts and words had been. Look what I’d done to myself. If I can create this disaster with nothing but my thoughts, I can just as easily create the opposite.
When I think back about it now, I’m slightly embarrassed. How could I have fallen so bumpily off the wagon I’d use so successfully for so many years? I know good and well how this stuff works. I know that I create my own reality. I know that listening to dooms-dayers is the most futile exercise in the world.
I wasted no time using Hill’s famous advice.
Within a week, I had two new assignments. A new book contract came next. Rather than live frugally, the advice my friends were freely passing out, I decided to spend the summer overseas, volunteering and letting my newly-recovered faith pay the bills.
That decision to say, “I am prosperous and, of course, I can afford to travel overseas to volunteer” was the beginning of a more fruitful life.
Needless to say, I’ve taken that beautifully-engraved invitation and ripped it to shreds. And don’t bother sending anymore. Because from now on, my RSVP’s to any negativity will say one thing, “Have a good time. But don’t expect to find me there.”

“There is only one rule on this wild playground. Have fun, my dear. My dear, have fun.”–Hafiz
Fist bumps to all from Lawrence, Kansas. As many of you know, I’m writing a new book, due at the publisher two months (gulp!) from today. Much of my energy is going into this soon-to-be classic, so I’m following the advice of my social media mentor. Repost popular posts from the past. Almost sounds like a “She sells seashells” type tongue-twister. Enjoy and remember to continue singing “wild love songs from God.”
In 1937 when Napoleon Hill wrote his now-classic tome, quantum physics was still in diapers. Einstein, of course, had posited his famous theory of relativity, but quantum physicists didn’t completely understand how it worked.
To tell you the truth, they still have trouble making sense of the crazy quantum world that is changed by simple observation. As famous physicist Richard Feynman was known to say, “Nobody understands quantum mechanics.”
However, we do know with complete certainty that thoughts produce energy (much like invisible radio waves) and that they have a significant impact on your life. This energy, in fact, provides the building blocks for your life experience.
The update to Hill’s material should be this: “Think and BE Rich.” Time is irrelevant. You can “be rich” now. Money is only a representation of your “wealth consciousness” and “wealth consciousness” which is the true source of your financial picture is available right at this moment.
Money—or what we think of as money—bills, coins, etc.—are merely tools that demonstrate a person’s “wealth consciousness.” And, in fact, according to David Cameron Gikandi, only 4 percent of money in banks (depending on the country) exist in physical form. Furthermore, he says, “Money is not real. It’s a shadow of something else.”
So by expanding your consciousness into the true abundance of the world, you acquire what is in you already. As Gikandi says, “You have more wealth capability within you than you can possibly experience in a lifetime. Nor do you need to know how to convert wealth consciousness into paper money. It happens automatically when you expand your wealth consciousness.”
In the quantum world, you are connected to everything. You already have all the riches you could ever imagine. They exist right now as probability waves. But that’s the problem. You don’t imagine them.
You keep focusing on what you don’t have.
So back to Napoleon Hill. He advises people to come up with a date when they want a certain amount of money. Sometime in the future. But the trick in the quantum world is to “be rich now.” Again, all your riches already exist in the quantum world.
Being wealthy is an internal state. As Gikandi points out, “It has nothing to do with the outside world. The internal state of wealth is a decision you make right now and you become it right Now. You need nothing outside yourself to make this decision. Do not attempt to get wealth. Be wealth.
“Even in a billion lifetimes, you cannot possibly exhaust the wealthy given to you freely by life. But you can “fail” to receive it by your own thoughts, words, action, and most of all, your chosen states of being.”
The only thing standing in your way is your “wealth consciousness.” Isn’t it time to quit “thinking and growing rich?” Instead, it’s time to Think and BE Rich.

“I love swimming in the great question of what is real, true, what’s happening here in this thing called life.”—Grace Bell
As some of you may have noticed, negativity and problems seem to be ballooning out of control.
At the same time in this unique moment of history, more and more people are waking up and noticing the Divine Buzz, realizing the unlimited possibilities that exist right now, in this very moment.
What a paradox. Both energies rising at the same time.
The only reason the negativity often seems to be winning is because it makes so much more noise. Fear sells papers, ad dollars, products to “protect” us from life.
Which is why my mission is to make more noise for the other energy that is rising, just as fast and just as powerfully as those headlines that, at first glance, sound daunting.
One of reasons I feel so confident that “Truth, Justice and the American Way,” to quote Superman, are destined to win is because of all the young people who write to me, telling me their dreams and their belief in a beautiful world.
Like Mary Strobitzer, a 13-year-old girl from Austria who, instead of shopping for new jeans from H&M (even though, as she says, they were on sale), bought E-Squared, loved it and says it changed her life– because it’s “neither a ‘story’ or a “wonder,’ but REALITY.”
Another recent example comes from 19-year-old Callie Callagher who is now following her heart and is getting continuous signs that she’s on the right track.
Whatever she asks for falls into her lap. As she said in a recent email to me, “I recently said I wanted money to fall in my lap. A few days later a lady I babysit for asked me to drive her and another couple down the road for a country club night. Taxis were all booked so I agreed to drive them for $40. Not only did they give me $100, but they handed me $40 which accidently dropped into my lap.”
Callie, a fabulous writer (not a lawyer, as she’d been trained to be) wrote this blog post:
As we grow up we get general guidelines on how to live our lives: graduate high school, go to college, get a job and family, then wait for the time when we can retire and reminisce about what would have happened had we followed our dreams. When I was a senior in high school, we made timelines. They were all the same except for mine, and I felt out of the loop. My teacher said, “Pray for the day you can retire and start to enjoy your life.” That sounded awful, what a waste of the life you were meant to enjoy.
I have been trying to plan my life ever since I was eight. Part of that plan included becoming a lawyer. That was until one night when I was sixteen and watched American Beauty. That movie hit me like a ton of destiny-filled bricks. I knew at that moment I would become a writer. I told my unexcited friends and family I would be working in film instead of a law firm. They told me that I was crazy and I started to believe them. I cried for three nights and finally asked the universe for a sign that I was meant to work in film and be a writer. The next day while watching TV, the program guide fell on the bio of Mathew McConaughey. The info bar read something like, “After he dropped out of law school, McConaughey followed dreams of being in film.” The universe delivered, and it was my first experience that a higher power was listening.
Two weeks later, a friend’s mom gave me the email of her neighbor in Malibu. He was a working screenwriter in Hollywood who had written one of the biggest movies in theatres that summer. After the universe realized I was paying attention to my calling, it fell over itself to give me more stones for stepping. I expected to be at the Oscars that very year, and was rather disappointed when it didn’t happen.
Fast forward two years and I was working on screenplays, but was still trying to fit into the mold of who I thought I was supposed to be. I got good grades, went out on weekends and so on. I felt like a fraud doing this when I would rather be at home writing. My life changed when I read Spirit Junkie and E-Squared. I realized that I wasn’t the only person who had thoughts about living out my dreams. I ran with the information! I went against the ideas of everyone around me whose advice was to go to college right away. It was a transformational year for me spiritually and emotionally. I found that I have a love of writing books, and have since started what will be a series. I spend every day happy.
For a while I was annoyed that I wasn’t in Hollywood yet but after I listened to a tape on “How to get an agent” I realized why. I WASN’T READY AT ALL. I had turned my love of writing into a lust for quantity over quality and the writing suffered. I realized I needed to step up my A-game. Now, I am happy to spend every day writing for hours because I hold the clear end goal in mind. I mastered having patience so the best work can be produced. I realized I could make all the vision boards I wanted, but without action they were useless.
While visiting a friend at the University of Wisconsin last weekend, I
wondered if I had made a mistake by not getting the “college experience”. However, after going to a college party and seeing what all the buzz was about, I couldn’t imagine doing that for four years. I am willing to sacrifice what I think I should be doing as a nineteen year old in return for what I know is right for me.
More people need to follow their hearts. With the wise words from people like Pam Grout, Marie Forleo, and Napoleon Hill, I have been able to see how much magic exists in this world. I let go of the picture of the nineteen-year-old I thought I should be, and embraced my authentic self.
There are so many amazing things to see and do in this world, we just have to keep our eyes open and not be detoured by other peoples limiting words. People who are fearful will try to convince you to think the same way and deny you of your birth right of being happy, healthy and wealthy.
I remember the first time I heard the statement that one-percent of the population has most of the money in this world. I knew then that there was plenty of space for me, for everyone, if you just follow your dreams. Just remember, you can never be part of that elite one-percent if you do what everyone else is doing. Follow your heart, you will be warmly rewarded.
Thank you, Callie. Thank you, Mary. Thank you everyone who knows magic, miracles, joy and love are the only things that are truly real.

I’m heading to Mexico City today to speak at Expo Ser, the largest mind, body and spirit conference in Latin America. I’m excited because my daughter, Taz, who speaks Spanish (I don’t. Yet.) is going with me.
So I decided to re-run a popular blog post from last year. Enjoy!!
