Infinite abundance and why it has nothing to do with money

“Our inner worlds are the greatest lever for systems change.”—Mina Lee

I like to pay attention to shifts in consciousness, even when they’re small, especially when they’re overlooked.

Actor Michael Sheen (Good Omens, the Queen, the Prodigal Son) recently declared himself a “not-for-profit.” In an act of spontaneous generosity, he decided to donate all future earnings to social causes. He even sold two of his houses to fund the Homeless World Cup in Cardiff.

The reason I love this SO MUCH is because of the liberation Sheen now enjoys. He’s no longer beholden to the story of fear, the story of separation. He knows that by giving everything away, he’s actually giving everything to himself.

That’s true financial freedom. Traveling light, being free in mind. Knowing full well there’s more where that came from.

Money is nothing but a bunch of green paper and plastic cards and random numbers in a virtual cloud somewhere. Real security lies in feeling complete latitude to love, to give, to surrender to those natural urges to run up to everyone and say, “Hello! I’ve missed you. I adore you.”

Another great consciousness shifter (at least for me) is an interview I heard with Mina Lee. She talked about being taught to listen to tulips. Can you imagine the planet coming alive with the songs and stories of all living beings, seen and unseen? Talk about abundance.

These little points of light are erupting all over the place. I know it doesn’t seem like it, but that’s only because we give our attention to such a tiny sliver of reality.  There are a lot of forces that want to keep it that way, that want to continue to distract us with the idea that something is wrong, that something needs to be fixed. But what if that’s not true? What if the only problem is the idea that there’s a problem?

So my Christmas wish for all of us is that we open ourselves to the bigger reality that is SO obvious once we let go. I love you. I believe in the light. And I proclaim once again, 222 Forever!

The new, magical way of existing in the world

“Let me trust that all of my own needs are always met in amazing ways and it is safe to give freely as my heart guides me.”—Tosha Silver00001n

Unlike most of the world, I’m in no hurry to return to “normal.”

“Normal,” as prescribed by the existing culture, doesn’t always serve our best interests.

“Normal” focuses on the rational sliver of our minds that insists there is one way to solve things, one way to “do life.” It ignores this other body of possibility that, once we open up to, is a gazillion times more life-giving, optimistic and, quite frankly, closer to True Reality.

“Normal” limits what we’re allowed to expect. I’ll give you a couple examples.

“Normal” expects us to find all our answers in science, in history, in books. Those things are all worthy, but hardly a complete list of what we’re entitled to when we open up to the “non-normal” realms of magic and miracles.

Answers often come from nature (George Washington Carver, although a professor and degreed scientist, admitted that the hundreds of inventions he’s credited with were “given” to him by trees and plants on early morning walks) and from dreams (Larry Page first “dreamed” Google).

“Normal” expects us to “make a living” with a job. But I know lots of people (including myself) who make a much better living once they let go of their job. Or their job lets go of them.

I discovered that when I “give freely as my heart guides me,” as the above quote suggests, all my needs are met in truly amazing ways.

Soon after the 2008 recession when the internet more or less murdered traditional publishing, I was tempted to get on board with “normal.” Nobody was buying books—or at least not the books I was offering. Magazines were shrinking, laying off staff.

I even pondered getting one of those things (the three letter word that begins with “J”) that most people think is the only route to security. I decided to stick it out, to expect that I would be taken care of. After all, I was holding up my end of the bargain–pursuing, as Joseph Campbell called it, my bliss.

Soon enough, AAA called, asked to pay me to give a teleseminar on volunteer vacations. They had seen my National Geographic book on the topic and wanted to offer their members a glimpse into overseas volunteering.

And then an author from California, a guy I had never heard of, contacted me “out of the blue.”  He practically begged to pay me large sums of money for reading and editing his manuscript on Kansas.

Magic? A miracle? All I know is my book, “Kansas Curiosities,” that he had somehow discovered, is not typically sold in California bookstores.

Something was looking out for me. Something that wants to look out for all of us. IF we let it. If we defy “normal” and EXPECT it to.

So today, as we gaze out upon the new world that’s being created right before our eyes, I suggest we ban “normal.”

Let’s instead:

  1. Expect answers to all questions we might have. Expect these answers to be readily available, easy to access and incredibly loving, tender and gentle for all parties concerned.
  2.  Expect perfect, loving solutions for all challenges that might come up.
  3. Expect all our needs to be met.
  4. Expect that the prolific, abundant universe will show us how to thrive in this new world.

“Normal” tells us these things are difficult, impossible.

But “normal,” you are now free to officially kiss my keister.

Abundance, hoarders and why I’m a whole lot richer than #realDonaldTrump

“Only if there are angels in your head will you ever possibly see one.”—Mary Olivertaz4 (2)

Thought I should check in, let you know I’m back from India, still working on the Course in Miracles book and still moving full steam ahead with the 222 Foundation in honor of my epic daughter, Tasman.

I’ve even found what I think will be the first recipient for the upcoming February 22 award.

In the meantime, because I’m feeling a bit cheeky, thought I’d run a favorite post from four years ago.

Enjoy!!!

I didn’t make Forbes’ list of billionaires in 2015. Unlikely, I’ll make it this year either. But I do know a secret that makes me deserving of the list.

I know with complete certainty that the world is limitless, abundant and strangely-accommodating. I also know that anything I could ever need or want is as easy to manifest as plugging in the toaster.

Take today, for example, I’m making limoncello for my daughter’s party, enjoying mochas and breakfast out. And in a few months, I’m flying to Barcelona to visit her in her new post.

Those billionaires? I doubt they could spare the time.

In fact, the only difference between me and “The Donald” is I choose not to carry my riches around. It’s comforting to know that anything I could ever want to do is available to me, but why flaunt it or drag around a bunch of material baggage?

In fact, I’d like to argue that amassing $10 billion, the dollar amount Trump claims to be worth, is not that different than hoarding old newspapers, leaky buckets and all the other junk collecting in the homes of the dysfunctional folks we watch on the A&E show, “Hoarders.”

No, my role model is Peace Pilgrim who, when she was very young, made an important discovery: “Making money is easy.”

Which is why she could give up her earthly possessions and walk around the world with nothing but the clothes on her back. As she said about her 28-year-old journey, “Life is full. Life is good. I have a feeling of always being surrounded by all of the good things, like love and peace and joy. It’s like a protective surrounding.”

That’s all anyone really needs. To know with sure conviction that “the world is limitless, abundant and strangely accommodating.”

It’s not the “stuff” you want. Jesus could never have brought Lazarus back to life and multiplied all those fishes and loaves if he’d been preoccupied by the desire for a beachside residence.

That said, I do not want to make you feel guilty for wanting a big home in Malibu. There is not one thing wrong with a big home in Malibu. Or anything else you want. Want it. Walk toward it with all your heart and might. Just know that there are higher rungs. And know that most people hoard material things out of fear. And fear, after all, is what we’re attempting to move away from.

Money is everywhere

“Happiness comes from many sources, but none of these sources involve car or purse upgrades.”—Mr. Money Mustacheabundance

Last November, at an executive women’s retreat in Orlando, I met a brilliant CPA named Christi. I feel compelled to mention that I wasn’t at this weekend retreat because I’m an executive woman. I work in my pajamas. I was there because I was invited to give a two-hour presentation which, you’ll be happy to hear, I didn’t give in my PJ’s.

But this story isn’t about me.

It’s about Christi who is brilliant, not just because she helps clients with taxes and financial planning and all that other left-brain rigamarole, but because she helps them really understand money. Not in the way most of us understand money, but in the way money really is.

She considers it her duty to make sure they know that money is energy and that those numbers on their balance sheets and tax forms are a direct result of their thoughts and beliefs. She loves to tell them that money is unlimited and that it is only their thoughts and beliefs that could ever keep it away.

I’m thinking about money today because I just received my yearly bill from WordPress. WP is a free blogging platform, but I actually pay an annual fee so they’ll take all ads OFF my site. I figure it’s the least I can do for those of you who so generously take the time to read my posts

I write them out of sheer joy, as my own spiritual and creative practice. I write from my heart and I view them as a gift to anyone who cares to read them.

Which is why I don’t use my blog to promote what’s known as affiliate programs. You know–those posts that have the same spiel, the same wording and everything, from five different people. While there’s a certain kind of mad genius in promoting someone else’s program or product in exchange for a percentage of sales, I choose to turn down such invitations because I don’t view you as “a list.” You are my compadres in spiritual mischief, my friends, my sounding board. If I write about something, it’s because I’m genuinely excited about it.

So while Christi’s mission is to maximize and optimize finances, mine is to maximize and optimize joy. That’s why, as I often say, my goal is to become the Warren Buffet of Happiness.

And that’s what A Course in Miracles does. It helps us realize that the way we see ourselves and the world is upside down. It teaches us that living a wonderful, fulfilling life has nothing to do with finances and everything to do with how we see the world.

ACIM Lesson 59 encourages us to give up our pitiful illusions, to reach in and grab the absolute peace that abides within. It’s there within everyone, hidden under our thoughts and crazy beliefs, hidden under worry and stress and belief that money (or really anything at all) is limited. Limitation is a false construct that we have cemented in with our thoughts. It can be changed at any time.

Today, I encourage you to notice that, like Christi preaches, money (and abundance of all kinds) is everywhere.

You’ll find it by getting on a frequency of joy and gratitude. By taking off the blinders that block the presence and the radiance and the unforced generosity of the universe.

My service is to this presence. And to you, my dear friends, who have put a little bit of trust in me. For that, I say thank you, thank you, thank you.

There is never reluctance on the part of Infinite Intelligence to provide our good.

I’m more or less illiterate when it comes to anything electrical. I know what a plug looks like and I know how to attach it to a wall socket.

Beyond that, I draw a blank.

But there’s a device used in electronics that provides a good metaphor for understanding why some intentions are so easy to manifest and why others seem darned near impossible.

The device is called a resistor and basically (All you electricians out there, please forgive my simplistic explanation) what it does is reduce the amount of electrical current flowing through a circuit. Resistors limit the number of electrons that can flow past a given point at any one time.

Our beliefs about ourselves and about the way the world works serve as resistors, blocking the flow of the world’s limitless abundance. Our beliefs are the brakes that stop the natural, always-flowing current of good.

Let me give you an example. Most people believe money is limited and hard to come by. That’s a resistor.

On the other hand, they don’t believe health or intelligence is limited. Just because I’m healthy doesn’t mean you can’t be healthy, too. Steven Hawking’s brilliant intellect doesn’t prevent Matt Groening or Steven Spielberg from using their brain power.

But when it comes to abundance, the belief there’s only so much to go around is a big, fat resistor, much better at blocking the flow than tungsten, carbon and other popular resistors.

The other family-size resistor is believing you know how to best accomplish a particular goal. Let’s take traveling, a popular intention for many. Most people I talk to believe the best way to become a world traveler is to get a job so they can accumulate enough money and vacation time to visit say, Cape Town or Monte Carlo or even Denver, Colorado.

I, on the other hand, had no expectations one way or another. I knew I had a burning desire to travel, but I had nary a clue how to make that happen. What I did have is the wherewithal to acknowledge I had no clue. It was abundantly clear to me that if I was going to jet around the world, my only option was to give it up to the universe.

I let it go completely, trusting the universe was a heck of a lot smarter and more abundant than me.

Instead of following the “accepted path” of slaving away and accumulating money and vacation time, I now travel for free. The universe led me into travel writing, an occupation I’m not even sure I knew existed when I first made the declaration that I wanted to be a world traveler.

Money? Who needs money?

In the world of electronics, resistors sometimes come in handy (they can create heat and light), but for me, who longs for a life of ease and grace, I prefer to keep the flow as wide open as I possibly can.

Jobs and money are separate entities with very little in common

“You should be dancing in your shoes at all times.”—The Way of Mastery

I frequently get emails beseeching guidance on prosperity. Readers ask, “How do I overcome my fear around money?”

So here goes:

The best way I know to prosper is to separate the notion of “having money” from the notion of “having a job.”

In our consciousness, which provides the blueprint for our life experience, we believe the two are inseparable. Can’t have the first without the second.

But is that true?

In the field of infinite potentiality (FP), there are a gazillion ways for money to appear. In my life, money comes in all sorts of unexpected ways. In fact, that’s one of the greatest benefits of being a freelance writer. I’ve never made the hard and fast connection between jobs and money. So my consciousness has never blocked the tremendous gifts the universe wants to bless me with.

In our society, it’s quite true that money and jobs are dating, but, take it from me, they’re not in a monogamous relationship.

I was once in a workshop where we came up with 200 sources for obtaining moolah. A job wasn’t one of them.

Here are three stories from my inbox that demonstrate that obtaining prosperity has little to do with a job:

Numero Uno: “I spent much of my vacation-rereading your book. It truly revived and excited me to start the new year. I asked for January to be a great month full of good times with friends and a month of abundance with the universe sending me things all month. Well it has been two weeks of good times with friends and family and so far:

“Jan 5: Hotel $600 refund charged at arrival – the owner of resort just happened to come talk to us
Jan 9: Dyson part–$50 even though warranty three months over
Jan 10: Pickering rec center $20 swim credit – completely unexpected
Jan 13: Starbucks $1.50 in extra change
Jan 13: $20 bath and body – lady at cash out of nowhere gave daughter and I- two $10 coupons off our purchases
Jan 14/15: new clothes from a friend
Jan 16 – 2400 points – $240 travel credit from credit card – got an email out of no where – completely unexpected
First two weeks – $1000 .”

Although I haven’t heard the tally for the rest of the month, I did hear she was recently gifted with a Gucci purse.

Second story:

“I decided that I want to have 300€ but not from my parents (as I am currently in university) I didn’t know how I just believed it will happen and I left it like that.

“After a week I looked at my bank account and I had 300€ more from somewhere and I had no idea how that happened because only my parents have my bank account. So I thought it might be for my rent so I didn’t touch it and asked my landlord if my rent has been transferred. He said yes?!

“Then I told my boyfriend all about this and he told me that it’s probably the rent for next month and I shouldn’t spend it. My reaction was: “Nonsense, that’s a gift from the universe to me and I’ll buy myself a birthday present”. After all I was a bit suspicious so I spent only the half of it if in fact that was my next month’s rent. And this month it turned out it’s not. And it was a gift from nowhere.

“To be honest that’s just one of the many examples that happened. I’ve been able to attract everything that I want with the mindset that the universe knows what’s beat for me and I should just relax.”

Story #3:

“It’s as though the universe in many instances handles those wants in such a quiet way that we often miss the fact that our wants and desires have been met. I just woke up to that fact recently.

I wanted a watch which I really did not need that had the phases of the moon on it and I asked the universe to give it to me so that I would not have to purchase it myself. What happened was that I was on a cruise about three months later that gave us so much money to spend and when I went into the store that sold watches on the ship I saw a watch with the phases of the moon on it. I had actually forgotten that I had ask the universe for it and when I went up to the counter I asked the gentleman how much the watch was and he said it was $320. I actually had $350 on board credit to spend on this Cruise and I knew that the watch originally cost $895 but they were having a special sale that day on this particular watch.

“It didn’t register with me that I was getting a watch for free and it wasn’t until a couple of months later that I figured out that the Universe had supplied me the money on the cruise and had reduced the price of the watch so that I could purchase it.

“It is almost as though the universe is playing with us and every now and then tries to sneak something by us just for the fun of it.”

Abundance, hoarders and why I’m a whole lot richer than #realDonaldTrump.

As many of you may have seen on Facebook, I’ve been celebrating my daughter’s college graduation. Here’s a picture of the two of us in Bermuda long ago. I was there writing an travel article for Tennis magazine and she was my trusty research assistant.

At the same time (thanks to the magic of the internet), I’ve been “speaking” at the Hay House World Summit.

In my bio, I love that they called me a “Happy Life Scientist.”  I also got a kick out of one listener’s comments: “Love your Kansas accent, Pam Grout, it makes me happy. Like Captain Kangaroo, Mr. GreenJeans and Banana Man.”

There’s one more day to listen for free. If you’re so inclined, there’s a link at the bottom of this post.

So with all that said, I decided to re-run a blog post from a few years ago.

What if tragedy, chaos and unhappiness are nothing but a rumor, cemented into our consciousness by years of conditioning?

“Emancipate yourself from mental slavery. None but ourselves can free our minds.”
–Bob Marley

nasa-purple-nebula

Most of us think life is some sort of boot camp for heaven. We believe this short life span is “only a test” for the paradise we’re eventually going to earn. If we hang on and bear up, we’ll someday walk through those pearly gates and be happy. These errors in thinking have been condensed into living facts. Nothing is plainer than the inevitably of sorrows and trials.

But what if it isn’t necessary? What if there is no reason to be poor? Or sick? Or anything but living an abundant, exciting life? What if these tragic, difficult lives are nothing but a rumor, cemented into our consciousness by years and years of conditioning?

What I’d like to suggest is this heaven you’re waiting for is available now. And that you’ve been sold a bill of goods about who you are and what is possible.

The way I see it, there are only four reasons we aren’t all joyous, loving and free.

1. We didn’t know we could be.

2. We didn’t ask.

3. We don’t use our mind power properly. If you’ve ever been in a sailboat, you know that unless you hold the sails in the right position, you’re pretty much stuck paddling in circles. The wind, like your mind is a potent energy source, but it won’t take you anywhere until you learn the proper way to use it.

4. We have a thing about drama. Ever wonder why rollers coasters are so popular? Why movies like Alien v. Predator boost ticket sales? C’mon, admit it.  You crane your neck around to see those mangled bodies lying there along the side of the road after a car accident. You actually like being a little off-kilter and guess what? As long as you enjoy this, you get to have it.

This may be a hard pill to swallow, but we—you and me—made the mess we call material reality.

If you look very closely as what we politely assume to be the building blocks of the universe, you’ll discover they’re dicey at best. Or to put it another way, since renowned physicist Brian Greene is much better at explaining these thing than I am, “quantum fluctuations so mangle space and time that the conventional ideas of left/right, backward/forward, up/down and before/after become meaningless.” In other words, we experience war and global warming because that’s what we’ve come to expect, what we think of as reality. We created these disasters with our angry, fearful consciousness. The exciting thing about this truth (that it’s us, not some random misogynist named God) is that another way IS possible. We do not have to accept war and sickness and injustice. We, by changing our consciousness, can create a peaceful world that works for everyone.

In fact, looking for anything else is irresponsible.

Do your beliefs provide the circuitry for your greatest good?

Abundance is in our consciousness waiting for our us to withdraw

“How beautiful can life be? We hardly dare imagine it.”

As most of you regulars know, I just completed my next book. It’s about how getting on the frequency of gratitude and joy creates abundance of all kinds.

Financial capital is, of course, part of the equation, but it’s not the biggest or the best part. Most of us have money blown WAY out of proportion. As Grace Bell once said, we view money as if it was a god or some kind of unattainable movie star.

My new books discusses all kinds of capital—creative capital, social capital, having loads of fun capital.

And since I’m heading out soon to enjoy some of that having loads of fun capital (I’m going to Virginia and D.C. for a travel story), I’d like to share a couple stories (about capital) that recently came my way.

1. The first is from the woman in the picture. She used the Abracadabra principle from my book, E-Squared, to receive $100.

2. Next came from celebrity hypnotist Scott Schmaren who says: “Reading E2 has helped me more than quadruple my business, have multiple appearances on The Howard Stern Show, Coast to Coast Radio, Fox News and more. It has given me the opportunity to help more people and have their lives touch mine.”

3. This is from a beautiful soul who attended SHINE Miami: “I just wanted to write you to tell you that what a miraculous experience it was meeting you on Sunday. The event- SO FUN! I just can’t get over how exciting the energy was. On the way there, I asked my mom to “focus on things she wants from the FP, like a vacation”. Absolutely couldn’t get over it when they called her name for the grand prize which was a Royal Caribbean gift package.”

4. Last story comes from a woman who decided she wanted an all-expenses trip to celebrate her upcoming wedding anniversary. After a bit of changing her mind, she finally decided on Arizona, decided she needed $4000 to cover the trip.

The next day, while at work, her boss came into her office. He personally thanked her completing a major project and on behalf of the company was pleased to offer her a mid-year raise for—you guessed it, $4000

Thanks everyone for sending me your amazingly awesome stories. As I often say, I feel like I have my own personal self-help channel right in my inbox.
