I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was participating in a Laddership Pod with 100-some people from 17 countries. One of the participants has been standing at a busy intersection in her hometown with a sign. Nothing political. Nothing controversial. It simply says “Choose Love.” She has been holding this sign every Wednesday for two years.
This might sound like a simple thing, but the ripples from this one tiny action are immense. Articles have been written, minds have been widened. Who knows? Maybe someone saw the sign and decided against some mean and ugly thing they were secretly plotting.
The thing is we can’t know how our actions might positively benefit someone we don’t even know.
This week, another one of the participants from our pod lost her precious mother. As a tribute, many in our pod decided to follow Ruth’s lead and hold up our own “Choose Love” sign, in many countries around the world. These signs will be turned into a collage and sent to our friend in honor of her mother.
At the top of this post is the one I made yesterday (and held from 5 to 6). As you can see, I even roped in a few local friends to help in my gleeful scheme.
Yesterday was two years since Taz had her completely unexpected aneurysm. I could very easily have set around moping. I’ve certainly done my fair share of that. But instead, I did the very thing Taz would have done—I created something fun and spread a little joy.
I didn’t spend any money (well, a few bucks for the poster board), didn’t feel sorry for myself. I just got out there and put some merriment out into the world.
So here’s the assignment. Quit fretting about the coronavirus or the election or any other worry that currently lives rent-free in your head. Instead, make a sign. What would you like to broadcast to the world?
Scientists at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute recently published a paper that says it takes but 10 percent of a population to create a tipping point. A very small number of impassioned people really COULD turn this ship around.
So make your sign, snap a photo, post it here on the blog and if you REALLY want to make merry, be brave and take it out to the streets. It could just change your life. #222 Forever!

Hey, Pam, thanks for sharing such a great idea. I have another one for you. I work for an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness in Western Colorado. My boss, the executive director, Kevin Barclay, came up with an idea to create a “Random Acts of Kindness” month. He had the city council and the county commission come up with proclamations stating that, in Mesa County, the month of October is Random Acts of Kindness month. We have signs printed that we are putting up all over town; we have partnered with a local 2-1-1 phone service so people can call in a random act they have witnessed or performed and it will be recorded and sent to the local paper for publishing weekly. As you well know, miracles are everywhere, and right now we are getting our chance to record and share them. We also have small business-card size cards that say “You have been RAK’d” that we hand out when we buy someone’s coffee or lunch or something else nice.
So I just wanted to share with you that your efforts are influencing others in very creative ways. Thanks again for all you are doing to “turn this thing around.” Big love and cosmic hugs to you.

Confirming an outstanding payment yesterday 14 Oct I was reminded of Taz as the total was 222 euros. What I didnt realise that yesterday was the anniversary of her passing. I wonder did she pop up in other ways around the world. It definitely felt like she was saying hello to you Pam all the from Corfu

Something I have been doing lately (an idea that I saw a year ago and have been meaning to do it ever since) is posting flyers that say “FREE Compliments! Take one for yourself or give one to a friend.” And then on the bottom, I have written a whole bunch of compliments to tear off. Such as: “You make that mask look good!”, “Nice shoes!”, “Your face should be on a greeting card!”, ” I admire your integrity!”; ” You always make me laugh so hard, I pee my pants!”, etc… I work in two different restaurants that have bulletin boards, so I keep putting these up on the boards, and a couple of other bulletin boards around town. People love it as much as I did when I saw it last year.

Love this idea and am thinking of a way to make a sign that will withstand our rains. I’m making a quilt this winter that is titled “Create Kindness” I can hardly wait to get it started and then hung. No matter what, we need more of the love and kindness in the world.
I just love your sign Pam❤️ When we went into lockdown this year we put a rainbow n our window and a CHOOSE LOVE sign on our front door.
