Why the news is irrelevant

“We are not rational enough to be exposed to the press.”—Rolf Dobelli11111

What I see in the news media is a tiny speck of a reality far removed from true Reality.

It’s so limited in dimension and scope of understanding that paying close attention is like unknowingly having one of those “please kick me” signs pinned to my back.

The news media feeds me small bites of trivial matter, tidbits that don’t really concern my life and don’t require thinking.

Out of thousands of news stories and tweets I’ve read, not one–because I consumed it–helped me make a better decision about a serious matter affecting my life.

“News” is just one corporation’s opinion. It’s mostly clickbait, completely irrelevant to my well-being. Truly creative minds–whether composers, mathematicians, scientists, authors or musicians–could care less what’s trending on twitter.

I’ve concluded that the important stuff I need to know is happening right outside my window, right here in my neighborhood, right in my own heart.

What really matters is the indestructible joy and pulse of life being broadcast from every tree, every star, every bird.

My mission now is to pay more attention to the collective rhythm and wisdom emanating from the larger whole, what I often call the Divine Buzz.

It might sound big and cosmic, but it’s really the most natural thing in the world. And it’s a gazillion times more resourceful and richer in content than anything I could ever hear on CNN.

So it’s Friday, my friends, and you know what that means. It’s time to go out and grab the weekend by the balls. Make it the best one yet.

  1. Pam, thankyou for the stream of delightful wisdom. I enjoy it, am moved by it, and occasionally even attempt to comment, which wordpress discourages (without a password). So let this suffice: you are bare bones real deal friend for life. Jeff Ajijic

  2. Love you, Pam! Have several of your books and have passed the word on to others, who have also bought your book. I’m very happy you’re blogging again. Thanks for sharing with the world all that you do!

p.s. … I think you mean could *NOT* care less 😉 (i.e., when you truly don’t give a hoot… otherwise, well, it’s saying you actually do care at least somewhat 😉 ) xoxo!!! https://www.writersdigest.com/editor-blogs/questions-and-quandaries/grammar/i-could-care-less-or-i-couldnt-care-less

  3. AGREED!! Sickness, Drugs and certainly nothing to Rock &Roll about! That’s what the media is pushing. As for me? I gravitate towards gratitude because I’m smoking what you’re selling! Love you Pam ❤️💪❤️✍️❤️👀

  4. Love this Pam. I gave up watching and listening to the news years ago and my family thought I was crazy and making myself uninformed. What they didn’t understand is I was making myself more informed in areas that seemed much more important to me.

  5. Hello Ms. Pam,

It’s such and honor and pleasure to hear from you today.

Nature is alive and talking to us. -Terence McKenna-

I indeed know this in my heart and soul to be true, in fact I’ve secretly believed it since I was maybe Seven or eight years old. But in that last few years I’m finding more and more scientific proof. The book “The Secret Life of Plants” that I read just out of high school was indeed some of that proof, not that I need scientific proof of anything anymore because it’s all within.
Below I’ll show you all some more proof….Enjoy everybody….

Below is a partial copy of the transcript from a Tedx talk and I’m sure you all can find the link to it if you would like to see it in it’s entirety.

I’d like to tell you a short story. Once, about four years ago, I attended a declamation, of a text by Davi Kopenawa, a wise representative of the Yanomami people, and it went more or less like this: “Doesn’t the white man know that, if he destroys the forest, there will be no more rain? And that, if there’s no more rain, there’ll be nothing to drink, or to eat?” I heard that, and my eyes welled up and I went, “Oh, my! I’ve been studying this for 20 years, with a super computer, dozens, thousands of scientists, and we are starting to get to this conclusion, which he already knows!” A critical point is the Yanomami have never deforested. How could they know the rain would end? This bugged me and I was befuddled. How could he know that?
15:46 Some months later, I met him at another event and said, “Davi, how did you know that if the forest was destroyed, there’d be no more rain?” He replied: “The spirit of the forest told us.” For me, this was a game changer, a radical change. I said, “Gosh! Why am I doing all this science to get to a conclusion that he already knows?” Then, something absolutely critical hit me, which is, seeing is believing. Out of sight, out of mind. This is a need the previous speaker pointed out: We need to see things — I mean, we, Western society, which is becoming global, civilized — we need to see. If we don’t see, we don’t register the information. We live in ignorance.
16:51 So, I propose the following — of course, the astronomer wouldn’t like the idea — but let’s turn the Hubble telescope upside down. And let’s make it look down here, rather than to the far reaches of the universe. The universe is wonderful, but we have a practical reality, which is we live in an unknown cosmos, and we’re ignorant about it. We’re trampling on this wonderful cosmos that shelters us and houses us. Talk to any astrophysicist. The Earth is a statistical improbability. The stability and comfort that we enjoy, despite the droughts of the Negro River, and all the heat and cold and typhoons, etc., there is nothing like it in the universe, that we know of.

Going outside to dance in the rain and move some cows with great delight. And learn this song on my guitar- to sing!
        Bless you …. all!

  6. Amen to all of this. I tape the news, watch it in fast forward with the sound off and if something relevant to me comes on, I can stop and listen. Most days the 2 hour news takes less than 15 min to observe and dismiss. I keep telling my friends to try it that way. Who wants that garbage regurgitated in so many ways to make you sick. I stay aware and informed but not affected. They are feeding fear to us by the shovelful. Thanks for tackling a touchy subject.

  7. Ah, Pam, you’ve done it again! Brilliant! These words speak to my heart and soul and totally resonate with me. I rarely watch, read or listen to the news as I find it depressing, annoying, boring or horrifying. Who needs any of that?! I’d much rather tune into the singing of the birds, the whisper of the wind, and the still small voice of Spirit guiding me toward magic. I’m so grateful spirit guided me to YOU! Thankyou dear Pam and have a wonderful weekend yourself! 💛

  8. I love you, Pam, and I’ve told you so many times (mostly silently but a couple of times in print). You have this magical way if breaking thru the BS and speaking the truth right to my face. I, too, have no time for the “news” mostly because it isn’t. And, although I love the attitude behind the phrase, I won’t be “grabbing the weekend by the balls” because I have a pair and I know how much that would hurt. I will enjoy it however, and I will be sending you Love and Light to enjoy it as well!

    1. So glad you realized it was a metaphor, my friend! Thanks for the love!!! And I love that, ” I have no time for the “news: mostly because it isn’t.

  9. THE NEWS SUCKS!!! TAKE A WALK.. SEE THE BEAUTY🤗🤗I couldn’t tell you a damn thing going on past my daily travels… ignorant!..some may say…but the old saying”ignorance is bliss” hasn’t survived this long for no reason. And I’m blissful.
    LOVE YOU PAM😀🤓

  10. Thank you. This is true for me as well. I so appreciate your sharing! I look forward to your posts! Your authenticity is inspiring and uplifting and a beautiful reminder. Sending you love & big hugs!

  11. Timely. Ive been living in a fear state every day lately. The world seems to be getting scarier and scarier. I worry about the future. Worrying big weather issues are going to destroy us. Worried about the violent gangs. What a place to live in my mind. Its not at all comfortable in here.
Thinking about nature and its beauty resets me. I needed reminding. Thank you Pam xxx

    1. Yes, even if those realities end up coming true (which I don’t believe they will), I figure I might as well enjoy every moment until then, right?

  12. I’m very mindful of what I’m exposed to these days. And I rarely watch the news. Much prefer to read words like yours. Wonderful!

  13. I turned 60 this week, and I have not read, watched or listened to the news in almost 40 years. I may be the only person in the United States who has watched less than 10 minutes of the Sept 11th coverage, cumulatively. I decided as a young woman that it made no sense to have my blood pressure go up over things I could not control, and that attitude has served me well over the years. There is so much wonder, beauty, and love in the world, that I prefer to focus my attention on that. My reality is the one that matters, so I get to choose where I put my attention. Thank you for reminding us all of how things work.

  14. Love this, Pam…my new mantra is…It is none of my business! To everything of no concern in my life✨✨✨

  15. You are so good for me!!
I grabbed life this morning by jumping into the ocean, clothes and all, after a walk on the beach with one of my manifestation-earth-lover besties and Rubes, my seadog.
I will continue by listening to the cicada’s, the breeze and the ocean instead of my fear today. Thank you thank you thank you,

    1. I love that you jumped into the ocean —clothes and all! This makes me so happy, simply reading about it. 💥💓💥

  16. I think alot …if I don’t think I don’t know whay else to do. ..my mind doesnot rests .Besides I dii want to rest .If I rest I feel Im loosing something

  17. Hi She is one of my favorite authors. Thought you might enjoy this. It goes along with some of our conversations.

  19. Love you Pam…your the best! Agree with SO much of this, its so powerful and filled with TRUTH….Just like you…xxx

  20. I am so thankful for these posts. The ones of yours (this is number 2) I read today have inspired me to remember that my illnesses (diabetes and gastro paresis) are both simply imagined by me and brought into reality by me and suffered because I allow it.
Here is to dropping those weights (I have already removed the news, basically, from my conscious, much to the upset of my friends and families).

  21. While I’m glad you finally mentioned the news I’m disappointed you don’t see the relevance to our daily lives. The horrors that go on daily in this country with shootings, kids in cages, hate speech and a corruption so wide in this administration that it’s impossible to ignore. Yes, it’s not outside most of our windows but at any moment it might be and we must fight to bring life under control again by clearing the air of these malevolent forces at work.

  23. I completely agree with you! I was literally just having this conversation with my stepdad over the weekend (whom watches the news often) and who was shocked I didn’t know about the headlining Jeffery Epstein scandal. Question though… what about news such as the inhumane treatment of people at the border? If we ignored such news wouldn’t it perpetuate these situations instead of rallying for change? I’m just curious of your perspective. Mahalo nui!

  24. Before I came to see your new posts -less than a minute before I cliked your page icon on my browser- I was thinking whether I should go and see the headlines for today. I didn’t. Many years ago I came too the conclusion that most of the time the news just make me sick and I need to be careful with what I read and especially when. I need to do that sometimes since my work requires me being aware of certain developments in the world but I’ve discovered that I do not have to do that so often, a quick browse once a week is enough.

Many thanks, Pam, for this post. We needed to hear it.

  25. I just wanted to say I love your blog. I came accross it for you the first time today. You’ve got really amazing contents
