The material world: it’s a temp job

“Everything we call real is made of things that cannot be regarded as real.”—Niels Bohr

Are you thinking about righting that over-turned apple cart I talked about yesterday?

Not so fast.

ACIM Lesson 114 continues to emphasize that what I think I see with my eyes is nothing but a made-up illusion.

What IS REAL is the fact that I am spirit.

The ONLY surety is that I am a multi-dimensional energy field upon which no body can impose limitations. Which means anything material I see out there is temporary, at best.

This is REALLY GOOD NEWS. Knowing this fact is invaluable when wanting to upgrade your life. Any issue or problem that seems to be starring in your life story can be easily changed. This is a statement worth repeating often.

The only reason that thing you’re not crazy about seems so stubborn (say lack of money or struggling relationships) is that you keep animating it into your life with your attention.

My possibility posse last week launched a commission to over-ride some of the belief systems that hold this crazy world in place. And first thing on the agenda is declaring all apparent problems to be temporary, ephemeral.

Acknowledging that any situation that doesn’t make us feel connected and in love and wanting to break out in dance(say the political situation or societal divisions) is far from written in stone.

Again, it only seems that it is because we keep staring at it, pointing at it, pronouncing it true. Woe is us!

It will only stay “true” as long as we continue to invest our energy into it.

As Buckminster Fuller so aptly said, we can’t change the existing reality by fighting. We can only change it by building a new model that makes the existing one obsolete.

And it all starts by knowing…..it’s not real. It’s temporary. It’s on the stage of my worldview because I put it there with my belief that it’s permanently etched on stone tablets.

So bloody reassuring to know that it’s not.

  1. This is a good reminder of an epiphany I had during a Dead Show, while I was in college. I had a minor physical issue that I might have otherwise turned from molehill to mountain. I almost did…but then had the realization that this situation is TEMPORARY. Not only that, but EVERYTHING IS TEMPORARY! EVERYTHING!!! So simple, yet so profound. Good, bad, whatever – temporary. Short term temporary, long time temporary – temporary! Same as “this too, shall pass”. But it hit me hard. And from that moment on, for a very long time, nothing ruffled my feathers too badly. Things that had previously got me down or stressed me out, rolled off my back. 30 years later, this still runs in the background of my mind, but I love when it comes back to the foreground.
    Thanks for the reminder! xox

  2. I totally agree with that, butt… when your entire life has literally been wiped out it is really hard to kept that thought and focus.

  3. There is definitely power in like-minded people sharing truth. It certainly helps me to know others feel the same. And if Niels Bohr and Pam Grout agree, so much the better! Together we can create a more caring and abundant world.

  4. This morning I got up at 1:00 AM to drive my husband to a doctor’s appointment. I like to leave the house by 2:00 AM so that we will miss the traffic that starts getting heavy at 5:00 AM. We didn’t leave until 2:30 AM and I made the remark in the car that since we left late, we’d probably get into that 5:00 traffic. My husband, said, don’t say that. We may get into traffic and may not. There was construction work on the interstate near the hospital and I turned into the airport by mistake. It took about 15 minutes to get out of the airport and we had to use the directions on the phone to get back on track. As I was driving through the airport, I thought about what my husband had said. I had created a more complicated trip because i gave it energy.

With this message from you above,, I’m going to be even more careful about my thoughts as it appears that they all come true, including the things I say I don’t want..

    1. Thanks for sharing this story Delaine. I love the examples of how our thoughts and expectations create our experience, both the “good” and the “bad”, and how we DO have the power to change our experience just by changing our thoughts or our intention. I’m beginning to realise that the thoughts we give energy to have incredible power, more than most of us realise, and that we’ve got an amazing tool to use in the everyday “creation” of our lives. Stories like yours help me see this more easily so thanks and good luck next time! 😉

      1. Thank you, Jenny Louise. I was looking for you on Facebook yesterday. Please look for me and message me. Thank you.

  5. Pam:

I am so sorry to hear of your father’s passing. We are leaving in the morning to come to KC for Al’s sister Shelley’s funeral. She died from a rare appendix cancer. I hope your dad did not suffer too much.

Take care. Miss you! Congrats on your success! Love, Suzanne

  6. Wow! Really? ANY problem that appears to be starring in my life can be EASILY changed? Thats incredibly powerful and exciting and, as you said, “bloody reassuring”!! 😁 And all I have to do is to stop STARING at it for it to stop STARRING in my life! And therefore the reverse is also true – what I want to STAR in my life I just need to STARE at long enough and it will appear 😁 That’s a really easy image for me to use to help me get this lesson. Stop staring at what you don’t want and start staring at what you do want and before long what you don’t want will disappear and what you do want will appear. Amen! Thanks Pam. Totally love your take on these lessons 😊👍🏻💖🌸

  7. I totally agree with your observations of the material world. It is perhaps part of the next phase of our evolution to get to the point where we see through our spiritual eyes (and mind) and overcome the burden of our limiting beliefs. At times, it seems like this new way of being is behind a brick wall, but I have overcome brick walls before and now I know it is just part of the process. It helps when people like you affirm what I know to be true. Thanks!

  8. I know this, I know this. Everything is temporary and not real except for one thing on this planet. My girth. I just can’t seem to ignore it long enough to become invisible. But I’ll keep trying. Just my weary attempt at humor. 🙂 Thanks for this, Pam. It’s perfect in every way. Just what I needed today.

    1. Heeheehee! Love your attempt at humour! It succeeded! 😁 thanks! 👍🏻
(& I have the same trouble so I completely get it….I guess you and I have to stop “staring at” and seeing “our girth” and instead we have to see with our “real” eyes (our spiritual vision) and picture our inner slimness! If we look at it enough it will become our reality.) Let’s do it Marlene! With love and encouragement from Jenny Louise 😁💖🦋

      1. I’ve done it before when I had a little more vigor but I can do it again with more mindfulness. Just need to get the vision and hold it. Heck, at 70, round and rolly can be a positive. 🙂

  9. God bless you….and thank you for that gentle yet powerful reminder!! Whooohooo!! Yeah Buddy!! 🙂 <3

  10. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing your learning journey with us and reminding us of the truth 💖💖💖
