What if tragedy, chaos and unhappiness are nothing but a rumor, cemented into our consciousness by years of conditioning?

“Emancipate yourself from mental slavery. None but ourselves can free our minds.”
–Bob Marley

Most of us think life is some sort of boot camp for heaven. We believe this short life span is “only a test” for the paradise we’re eventually going to earn. If we hang on and bear up, we’ll someday walk through those pearly gates and be happy. These errors in thinking have been condensed into living facts. Nothing is plainer than the inevitably of sorrows and trials.

But what if it isn’t necessary? What if there is no reason to be poor? Or sick? Or anything but living an abundant, exciting life? What if these tragic, difficult lives are nothing but a rumor, cemented into our consciousness by years and years of conditioning?

What I’d like to suggest is this heaven you’re waiting for is available now. And that you’ve been sold a bill of goods about who you are and what is possible.

The way I see it, there are only four reasons we aren’t all joyous, loving and free.

1. We didn’t know we could be.

2. We didn’t ask.

3. We don’t use our mind power properly. If you’ve ever been in a sailboat, you know that unless you hold the sails in the right position, you’re pretty much stuck paddling in circles. The wind, like your mind is a potent energy source, but it won’t take you anywhere until you learn the proper way to use it.

4. We have a thing about drama. Ever wonder why rollers coasters are so popular? Why movies like Alien v. Predator boost ticket sales? C’mon, admit it.  You crane your neck around to see those mangled bodies lying there along the side of the road after a car accident. You actually like being a little off-kilter and guess what? As long as you enjoy this, you get to have it.

This may be a hard pill to swallow, but we—you and me—made the mess we call material reality.

If you look very closely as what we politely assume to be the building blocks of the universe, you’ll discover they’re dicey at best. Or to put it another way, since renowned physicist Brian Greene is much better at explaining these thing than I am, “quantum fluctuations so mangle space and time that the conventional ideas of left/right, backward/forward, up/down and before/after become meaningless.” In other words, we experience war and global warming because that’s what we’ve come to expect, what we think of as reality. We created these disasters with our angry, fearful consciousness. The exciting thing about this truth (that it’s us, not some random misogynist named God) is that another way IS possible. We do not have to accept war and sickness and injustice. We, by changing our consciousness, can create a peaceful world that works for everyone.

In fact, looking for anything else is irresponsible.

  1. It’s so true, Pam! Thanks for sharing your insights. I think it’s also true, that many people don’t know “who” they truly are–creators! As for you sailing analogy, yes and yes again! Ella Wheeler Wilcox (a New Thought writer of the past) certainly realized the nature of our being, too, when she wrote the famous poem ‘Tis The Set of The Sails.’ Thanks again!

  2. “In fact, looking for anything else is irresponsible.” Amen, sister!!! Thanks for the big smile on my face.

  3. To some, the last year would look like it was full of tragedies. Our house was flooded and my 101 yo mother, my 2 grandsons and myself were left without our home for 4 months. Our living arrangements during that time were unusual. One grandson stayed with a friends family for four months. My older grandson lived in a small camp trailer with all his musical instruments that he needed for his jazz studies program. My mom and I lived in a travel trailer in the driveway while construction happened. My mom who had dementia had to climb up and down the steps every day. She transitioned 12 days after we got back into our house.
The truth is that our rundown home is now beautiful and is more than we could have accomplished on our own. My time with my mom was a joy. We took long drives and ate blizzards from every Dairy Queen in the surrounding counties. I fell asleep nightly to the sounds of her gentle snoring. My guys really came to appreciate family and home. We felt the love from a multitude of friends and family who donated time, money, food, labor and love. Our construction crew fell in love with their Nana. My mom passed on and afternoon when I had just come back from cleaning out our storage unit. I sat in the chair in our room and dozed. I awakened after only a few minutes when I realized that I was the only one snoring. She had passed in MY sleep. What a wonderful way to go home.
We had a party for Mom yesterday down by the river with chicken strips and ice cream, her two favorite foods.
Many people say what a hard year this has been. But I’m not one of them. It truly has been the best year of my life.
    Thanks Esther and Abraham!

  4. Your posts continue to inspire me – and will me to look at life and things happening around me differently. I just LOVE your sailboat analogy – how simple but true. Just like most things in life. Thanks Pam…Joanne

  5. I love all the positive comments from folks who “get it”! We do create our own reality and we have to be responsible for that reality! Love it! Love the book — which so dog eared from all my use and re-reading! Thanks as always, Pam!

  6. Thank you Pam. I simply adore your emails and your offering of these true and real and fun thoughts. You are truly a gift in our world..as we all are – but you’re just in my Inbox regularly so sometimes I notice you more 😊 Thank you and have an awesome day everyone.

    1. Succinct is good. As I always like to say there are only two things we need to know: 1. The universe has our back and 2. Everything’s going to be okay.

  7. wow Pam you are absolutely spot on.
we are creating our own reality and maybe less than one percentage of world population knows this

    1. That’s why we’re here. Creating the better world so the other 99 percent can get on board. So glad it’s so much fun. Thanks, RS.

  8. I have these conversations in my head and the negative ones always override the positive ones. Like; I hope for the best and prepare for the worst. If the best happens I don’t have to do anything but give thanks, and if the worst happens I need to prepare a response so I don’t go to pieces. I have read your books and have written down things I wanted to happen in the next 48 – 72 hours and really believed they would happen, pictured the event, felt the emotion, etc. When they didn’t I am more disappointed than if I hadn’t done anything.

    1. I am with you. A few of the experiments I have tried worked, but none of the ones that were supposed to get me the things I really wanted or needed. I cannot just dismiss what Pam has written, because, like I said, sometimes it has worked for me, but not when it counted. I may not know how to use it properly, but nothing she has said or written has been at all helpful in that regard.

      1. I get your question and its kind of frustrating that Pam never seems to answer the worries about why the experiments go wrong.

My personal belief is that she is right. We are born to be happy and co-create the life we want. But we are learning how to. So, if it doesnt work, cut yourself a break. Step back from wondering what you did wrong and look to what you asked for. In my experience the things I ask for or think I need are not necessarily what make me happy. For example I have had a tough time with money so I manifested a job. Made a detailed list of what was needed and got it. Turns out it doesnt make me happy. Now i am learning to focus on attracting happy and looking for the happy in whatever happens. Its working. Good luck with your happy x

      2. I hear your frustration, Bailey! The main thing is to stay open and make this fun. That’s why we’re here. As Kurt Vonnegut says, “We’re here to fart around.”

    2. Giving thanks is always a good place to enter the “love train.” Gratitude is a seed through which the goodness and truth can grow.

      1. I’ve done what you said in “Let the Universe Do the Heavy Lifting,” and it hasn’t changed my results in the least. I’ve also tried other manifestation techniques of the more active variety, and that hasn’t worked either. I also really don’t enjoy doing those. At the same time, I also dislike trying to force myself to believe I have what I want, or that I feel good, when I don’t. You would say not to force it, but this kind of thing doesn’t come naturally to me at all. I have no idea what to do, and it makes me borderline suicidal.

  9. Course in Miacles, “Truth will correct all errors in my mind”. – so often I think ‘little me’ has to make truth and goodness real. I was thinking about this just today and your blog appeared in my inbox!!! I was simply mistaken when I thought all the s’t I see in the news today was real!!!

    1. Amen! I’m so glad little me isn’t in charge of truth and goodness. That’s it’s ultimate reality. The Course always steers me back to Truth. Thanks!

  10. Love, love, love, love, love… to infinity! 🙂
I SO look forward to every one of your posts, but this one really hit home… thank you, Pam, and all the inspirational replies, as well!

    Love,
    Heather

  11. Thanks, Pam… for a little reminder.

We constantly create what we experience… and then we focus on it, talk about it, write about it, and… create more if the same.

It’s has been a while… Have missed your well written posts.

  12. We get what we truly expect. Even Jesus said, “As your faith is, so be it unto you.” And it doesn’t matter if what we’re expecting is something positive or negative.

  13. I love all these comments, and feel right at home with the idea, which I’ve known for a long while, that I create my own reality. Just knowing how powerful I am is a constant reminder to be kind, and smile at others, to lift them up and help heal the world. May we all use our minds wisely, to counteract all the negative buzzz around us!
