Why I’m rewriting Murphy’s Law

“Gratitude takes nothing for granted, is never unresponsive, is constantly awakening to new wonder. For the grateful person knows goodness, not by hearsay but by experience. And that is what makes all the difference.”–Thomas Merton

Murphy’s law, a famous adage that most of us live by, states that “Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.”

I, for one, beg to differ.

It is only our belief in problems that perpetuates the problem. Our constant struggle to awaken is the very obstacle to its accomplishment.

I was on a phone call yesterday with some readers who wanted to know what my process was. I almost felt guilty because I don’t know that I have a “process.” I don’t have a seven-step solution.

I just know that whenever I am being my mind’s bitch, I am not living in my natural state of joy. I am not living my Truth which is that I am already free and infinite.

Instead of looking for the next teacher, the next book, the next process, I would like to suggest that we spend time following the F.P’s. law that states: “Anything that can go right will go right.”

Once we start noticing all that is going right that is all we will see.

  1. “Whenever I am being my mind’s bitch”… Oh Pam, you crack me up. I hope I never forget this phrase!

  2. Rewriting Murphy’s Law: “Anything that you believe that can go wrong, will go wrong”; but, you rewrote it fantastically:”“Anything that can go right will go right.” . I’d rewrite it:
“Anything that you believe that can go right, will go right”

  3. Rewriting Murphy Law: ” Anything that you believe that can go wrong, will go wrong”. But, you rewrote it fantastically:” “Anything that can go right will go right.”
I could add:”” Anything that you believe that can go right, will go right”.

  4. When I saw the photo of the smiley ball amid the frowney balls, I had to chuckle! I remember when the smiley face icon emerged and became so popular. It was soon followed by a sarcastic reaction! Actually, I find the smiley so in contrast to what the reactionary folks wear on their flesh and bone faces! Hey, I will take all the smiles I can get, everyday, be they on my own face, on other’s faces or on silly balls and icons! Murphy and his followers get what they ask for. No, thanks, Mr. Murphy, I will hold out for the Positive! Thanks, Pan for this refreshing post!

  5. Love it! I was told 10 years ago in meditation to Laugh, Play, Trust, and Dance. And I kept asking, what else. But, there is nothing else, LOL. I totally agree with you.

  6. After I have read Pam Grout’s books, I thought of a Russian idiom which goes “Don’t say Hop before you jump” and basically means do not jinx yourself, do not talk or even think about something good before it happens because then it may not. I have realized that this has been a block and barrier in my life to manifesting many positive realities and I have committed to no longer following it. If I am expecting something good, hell yeah I am going to think about it and think it and speak it and create it and ask for it!
