Yabba-dabba-DON’T

Don’t fret. Don’t stress. Don’t work so hard.apple cart

Course in Miracles is all about upsetting the apple cart. Chief among the apples that needs upsetting is the notion that achievement is the result of effort, that the best way to accomplish a goal is to work really, really, really hard.

ACIM Lesson 113 tells me I’ve already got it. I’m already there.

And if there’s something I should desire, I simply employ what I call the crockpot principle. The set it and forget it principle.

Make an intention, put it in the big cosmic crockpot, close the lid and go about your merry way.

If instead, I decide to work and worry and wonder when it’s going to happen, I send out vibes of “Eeks!”

Vibes of “eeeks!” are diametrically opposed to my perfect serenity and peace (two promises from today’s lesson) and to that thing I’m hoping to manifest.

Here’s two examples of Yabba-dabba-don’ting.

Comedian John Mulaney auditioned for Saturday Night Live in August 2008. Although he wasn’t chosen as a cast member, he was asked to join the writing team, a post he held for six years. Two Saturday nights ago, ten years after his original audition, Mulaney not only made it to the SNL acting stage, he hosted the whole damned show.

Two of his favorite skits—Lobster Dinner and Switcheroo, both of which had been rejected earlier–finally made it to the stage.

Mulaney didn’t fret or strive about not landing a spot on the cast. He didn’t conceive seven steps to overcome rejection. He simply put his dream and his skits in the cosmic crockpot and went out dancing.

On August 29, 2016, Jamal Moore didn’t even bother to throw his intention into the crockpot. He simply tweeted: I’m going to work for Beyonce one day.

Well guess what? When Queen Bey performed at Coachella last weekend, he was right by her side.

He tweeted soon thereafter—”I completely forgot I spoke this into the atmosphere almost two years ago.”

So your choice, guys?

You can strive, fret and send “eeks!” out into the atmosphere. Or you can rest in knowing that Source is, as we speak, lining up everything you could possibly want or need.

Why I live by Bobby McFerrin’s “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” mantra

This is getting crazy.

I just heard about two college professors at two different colleges who assigned, E-Squared. For college credit. One is even going to send me her students’ papers which, as she said, were “pretty amazing.”

And someone sent me this picture of Andy Dick, the comedian, actor and Season 16 Dancing with the Stars competitor, who is apparently reading it, too.

With the new book, the one I’m writing now, I throw down an even bigger gauntlet. Full-time joy. Constant contact with the Divine Buzz.

Because the more joy you have in your life, the better life works. The more gratitude you feel, the wider the door opens for life’s largesse to flow in.

In fact, the ONLY thing that can keep it away is the walls we all build with our crazy thoughts. But once we quit believing our ridiculous, crazy-making thoughts, once we start trusting that joy is our natural, God-given state, all the security forces in the world can’t keep our good away.

“Listen; there’s a hell of a good universe next door: let’s go.”–e. e. cummings

Okay, so you’ve made some goals, set some intentions. But, so far, nothing has shown up. Wanna know why?

You’re trying too hard. You’re trying to force things instead of just relaxing and connecting with the power and genius of the universe.

See this picture. It’s green bean seeds from Experiment No# 6 (The Superhero Principle) in my book, E-Squared.
awesomeness

The reader who sent me this picture made the intention that the back row of seeds would grow faster than the front row.

It worked like a charm, because she knew there was nothing she could personally do to make those green beans grow faster. Except be willing. She had to surrender and believe that her focus and attention was enough.

With most goals and intentions, the ones where there’s something we perceive we should do, we think surrender is not an option. We insist on trying to make our intentions happen. We use force, we manipulate. We get personally involved instead of letting go and letting the majesty of the universe do its glorious thing. The tactic of aggressiveness sometimes works, but it invariably employs “weak energy,” an energy that will always play second fiddle to the simple power of willingness.

Willingness brings openness and flexibility and new possibilities. It’s the prerequisite for changing anything in your life, the starting point for manifesting goodness.

I understand your desire to push, to go, go, go. It’s the cultural norm. We’ve all heard some version of these statements:

“You have to fight for what you want in this world.”

“You have to put your nose to the grindstone.”

“Nothing comes easy.”

“If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.”

But there is another way. And it’s simple willingness.

By cultivating a willing mind and being willing to approach things in a new way, you’ll come from a place of power. You’ll find an energy that unifies, that encourages wholeness.

Yes, this energy is invisible (making it a lot harder to trust for some folks), but, in reality, it’s more tangible and powerful than forcing and grunting and groaning will ever be.

To change your life for the better, you simply connect with the power of the universe and then step back and allow it all to unfold with ease and grace.

And just so you know, there’s still time to enter the E-Cubed Selfie Challenge, the contest where every single entrant wins. You might win a free cruise or a pair of tickets to one of the four North American I Can Do It! conferences, sponsored by Hay House with all your favorite authors. Hope to see you there.
